You're welcome.
Re:Emacs: Mastering Eshell on Thursday August 18, 2022 @04:51AM (#32506969)
What version? On 29.0.50 I get

    $ type type
    type: command not found
Re:Emacs: Mastering Eshell on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @04:23PM (#32501250)
The type command seems to be missing.
Re:Using the same Arch Linux installation for a decade on Tuesday August 16, 2022 @05:25PM (#32489165)
With the Arch Wiki and a little determination you don't need any prior knowledge of Linux.

Who are they?

When I tried this about a year ago, it wasn't possible to set up full-disk encryption with hibernation.

It's also nice to stick to the original 14-character limit on Unix file names.
Re:Software Jailbreak for Any Kindle on Sunday May 01, 2022 @05:30AM (#31223467)
Is there a way to check whether the jailbreak was successful? I followed all the steps, I think, but see no indication of success.
Re:Software Jailbreak for Any Kindle on Sunday May 01, 2022 @03:58AM (#31223038)
OK, that gesture was really hard to do.
Re:Software Jailbreak for Any Kindle on Sunday May 01, 2022 @03:47AM (#31223002)
I'm stuck at step 8. I can't seem to get the ``secret gesture'' to work, and it says `This demonstration device is either missing content or is disconnected from the network | CONFIGURE DEVIE'' and responds to nothing.

Can you elaborate on the have-to part?

When do you expect these computers will become coreboot compatible?
Re:Using foot pedals for modifier keys in Linux (2014) on Saturday April 02, 2022 @05:30AM (#30886949)
I've been using the Olympus RS31H for control (left), shift (right), meta (middle), and super (top), which is all right, but reaching the top pedal is a bit cumbersome, because one has to raise one's whole foot. (Beware that, although it works on Linux, MS Windows + further proprietary software is needed to configure this.) I imagine organ pedals would be better, but I haven't found anything promising.
Is my downvoted & dead sister so because she is false or because she spoke an unspeakable truth? Surely this cannot be one of those places where mentioning an offensive word (as distinct from using it) is considered offensive? @dang
What was the actual content of the tweet?
Re:An AI designed keyboard layout (2021) on Friday March 18, 2022 @11:49AM (#30723754)
No, on a regular keyboard I regard 4 as corresponding to 7, since they are both pressed by the index finger directly above the home position. I see the numbers as split in odd and even between the left and the right hand.

Re:An AI designed keyboard layout (2021) on Friday March 18, 2022 @08:07AM (#30721136)
Not sure what you mean, but don't you agree that, if we take 0 to come before 1 and not after 9, there's an asymmetry between the left and the right hand?
Re:Down the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole on Friday March 18, 2022 @07:52AM (#30720986)
There is a significant difference in quality and feel between the models M and F: M is very stiff.

I've been using this (almost) and had forgotten it was from the programmer's Dvorak, but surely it must be:

7531980246

Surely programmers start counting from 0 and use 0 more often than 8.

Wonder how this compares to QGMLWB, which is also designed by a program.

Where does this so broadly embraced idea, that two sentences qualify as a ``paragraph'', come from; and is there any evidence that writing in this way achieves anything beyond suggesting that the reader (as well as the writer) is illiterate?

Re:Brand New Model F Keyboards on Wednesday March 02, 2022 @12:15PM (#30529794)
Model M is very stiff in comparison. I hated it and I rather like model F.

``In the case of James Clear and I'' -- the implication being that it were grammatical to say ``in the case of I''.

i used to have javascript turned off for a long time, but i've given up. you can't even search hacker news without javascript (for some reason).
Do all new cars have software?
If that's the only reason for accepting ads, then they could be consigned to particular websites and stop polluting the world for the rest of us. Then, if you need something, you can go watch all the stupid ads.
Because they pollute the world?
Re:GNU Radio on Saturday January 15, 2022 @06:57AM (#29945717)
You're probably talking about something else, but it took me a while to realize that many features are hidden behind a right (or is it middle) click.
