Re:My first year in sales as technical founder on Thursday January 22, 2026 @09:40PM (#46727690)
I concur. Really great post! Been an engineer for a while, starting to prepare to put together SaaS products, so this will be useful to come back to. Thank you, OP!
I agree. It is indeed a novel project, but has little to actually do with TeX.
Re:Saudi Arabia Gives Citizenship to a Robot on Friday October 27, 2017 @03:39AM (#15566419)
and now for something completely different...
Re:How to Read the JFK Assassination Files on Friday October 27, 2017 @03:36AM (#15566407)
Such a solid article. Refreshing to read this.
Re:I Snuck into Ken Kesey's Fiction Class on Thursday October 19, 2017 @05:23AM (#15506539)
This is an excellent essay about both writing and being so different.
an awesome (in the literal sense) piece of work - hardware, software, engineering, design, communication, promotion
Re:Headless mode in Firefox on Wednesday August 30, 2017 @11:22AM (#15132885)
welcome development. apparent that Firefox is paying attention what's happening in JS world...
Feels like Medium is clutching at straws after failing with the Members-Only content model...
so novel and simple!
Re:Instagram’s CEO Wants to Clean Up the Internet on Thursday August 17, 2017 @03:29AM (#15034499)
No, but I'd say it's more than that, given the article.
Re:Instagram’s CEO Wants to Clean Up the Internet on Thursday August 17, 2017 @03:28AM (#15034496)
Great answer.
Re:Instagram’s CEO Wants to Clean Up the Internet on Wednesday August 16, 2017 @04:43AM (#15025905)
Why can't CEOs just build products and help customers and abstain from moral crusades?
Re:How to Write a Song on Tuesday August 15, 2017 @03:04AM (#15016116)
Written a few songs. This article is good advice and it captures the process really well. It honors the sporadic nature of idea generation. #2 is incredibly true, just capture them, even if you're driving on a highway! You'll never get the moment back...

#3 and #4 are novel. I'm glad I've learned about them now.

#5 and #8 is a matter of schools of thought. I don't agree. And perhaps because I've written 10 verses drivelling about love. :) I think that if the 10 verses are adequately compelling, through construction and message, then it can lock in a listener. Pandering only to what works in hits is limiting, in my view.

#6, #9, and #10 is also evidence of a mature songwriter. H/t.

Re:The LaTeX Fetish (2016) on Monday August 14, 2017 @03:29AM (#15007104)
Pretty measured essay. I went through my own LaTex fetish phase. The typesetting can get in the way of the writing. I've found it easier to first write in a text editor and then start typesetting once I'm pretty much sure of the content.

Re:The Evolution of Trust on Friday July 28, 2017 @04:35AM (#14872848)
this is incredibly fascinating and insightful.

side question: who composed the music? the guitar track is excellent. :)

this looks promising. I like how it teaches the concepts using plain Javascript without focusing on a tool or library. Kudos.
Re:Psychology of Intelligence Analysis (1999) on Wednesday July 26, 2017 @10:52AM (#14856650)
No. Do I need to in order to crack a half-joke? :)
Re:The Acceleration of Addictiveness (2010) on Wednesday July 26, 2017 @06:50AM (#14855101)
i think the points raised, that addiction is normalized and that society decides what is an "addiction" or not, is novel and fresh.
this reminds me of a dark joke.

a rabbit was detained by the secret police. the interrogator asks him, "what are you?" the rabbit says, "rabbit"

They torture, beat, and electrocute him for days.

Then, the interrogator asks him, "who told you you're a rabbit?"

h/t to CircleCI for doing this kind of work in the tech industry.
Re:The Facebook Algorithm Mom Problem on Friday July 14, 2017 @04:10AM (#14768334)
Had an aha moment reading this post. It makes sense now. This sentence mirrors my own recent experience: "These kinds of things are ones which I would relay to them via phone or in person and not post about publicly."
Re:The Lost Art of Manually Calculating Square Roots on Friday July 14, 2017 @04:05AM (#14768311)
the most un-Medium article I've read on Medium in a long time. great execution!
good essay. i like the somber tone that neither glorifies nor pscyhologies her father's disease.
great concept. i'd say it's more intelligent and meaningful promotion rather than succumbing to hipsterism...
Re:Why I deleted my Facebook account on Friday July 07, 2017 @03:27AM (#14716719)
"... one of the last things that kept me on Facebook—after I had largely stopped posting and reading the News Feed—was simply checking my notifications. I unconsciously craved that little hit of happiness one gets when they see, So-and-so liked your post. But that’s not real happiness. It’s an unhealthy addiction."

This is true, especially of my current use of Facebook.
