Wen didn't have liquid nitrogen, but a overnight in a freezer worked too. I just did that last year for a friend's external drive.

Good one, I'm gonna be 40 in a bit with 4 kids. I can totally relate.

As a one man shop for the small company I work for this is great advice. Inspired me to create a new "read this in case of emergency" doc if I get hit by a bus.
Reading the article I immediately thought of the blackbird and wondered if it had suffered a similar fate.
I love the inclusion of the SC utube playlist
SC4 was the last good SC game (and has mods!). SC3k has the best music though.
Same here, AMD Ryzen PC. Not liquid cooled, but it is a mini-itx cube which is neat.

I have a mid 2012 MB air that I still love. Screen isn't nearly as nice, but I use it over the MBP because the keyboard isn't like typing on cement and I can actually use it on my lap without feeling like its actively trying to burn my balls off. In all fairness though, I have a XPS 9560 and 9360 and both overheat and throttle like crazy and require throttle stop. Lone cowboy admin for a small company so I've got a pile of laptops.

Re:The 2020 State of Remote Work on Friday February 14, 2020 @10:39AM (#22327427)
Neat idea, I don't fit the demographic but maybe there is a stronger representation of the family man in remote working and why that loneliness stat is so low in your experience. My family keeps me plenty of company throughout the day and myself and coworkers have great communication. I have never felt lonely. It's not being with other people I miss though, it's the in person random collaboration sessions I miss. Reddit and this site fill in some of that gap.
Side bar with books and chapters would be nice too, like google photos months and years.
I still play, the mod scene for SC4 is great. There are bike lanes now and all the parking lots you could want. You can easily build American suburban shopping centers with acres of beautiful cement.

When I was in high school I went to city counsel meetings, was active in youth in gov't, and even met the city manager. All because I loved playing SimCity for much. We never had a computer powerful enough to play SC2k so I saved and bought a Sega Saturn and the AT keyboard adapter and spent hours playing on that.

Re:Ask HN: What's your working day like? on Monday May 08, 2017 @01:12PM (#14293536)
Not security either, did not realize how much I can relate to 10:45 and 13:00.

Profession/position: Sysadmin - full time, remote - < 50 employees

Workday:

    - 7:45am Wake up. Let the dog out. Slowly try to wear off soreness from psoriatic arthritis. Get coffee. Go to office.
    - 8am Check email, hipchat, reports and alerts that came in that weren't critical enough to SMS me.
    - 9am Do the needful from jira, that I assigned myself. I'm the only sysadmin/ITops/devops person. Add more tasks to jira. My sprint ends with more story points than it started with. I know, but I like using scrum and sprints even if I'm doing it all wrong. It's just me. I also like to schedule meetings between 9am - 11am.
    - 11am Keep plugging away at jira tasks, try to stay away from /r/sysadmin which will only add more jira tasks.
    - 1pmish 3 days/week go for lunch ride on the bike. < 1 hour/15 miles
    - 3pm Mon/Wed Meet with CTO to go over the needfuls
    - 4pm Start wrapping things up so I don't get stuck with a task that keeps me until 7pm.
    - 6pmish Eat dinner with kids. Play with kids. Go to the park or a walk with the kids if wife is working out, or we all go.
    - 8pm Watch too much godamn TV. Office re-runs, shark tank, something mindless to veg out on. I'm trying to switch this habit to an hour of reading non fiction.
    - 10pm-12am Go to bed. Read crappy pop scifi for an hour before falling asleep.
I love it. Very easy to get distracted, but I am distracted with work to do. I end up reading about some new vulnerability or 0day and I start checking to see if I need to worry about it. Or a new tech that could be useful. New feature was released in Azure/o365.
