So how do you propose to address the inevitable vulnerabilities in firmware that hasn’t been updated? A tech must be physically present to flip the switch before updating?
Maybe I’m not enough of a Trekkie, but I feel multiple choice would be good here.
Sigh, we’re so far behind in anything that’s actually good for the common person. We’re way ahead in capitalistic societal development, though.
I haven't heard of a take-home colonoscopy. How does that work?
I would say they should have only deleted the data that was found to be illegal, but if that data was all over the place... I find it hard to sympathize.
Re:Oldest GUI application that still runs on Windows 11 on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:47PM (#50248943)
I often think old GUIs have a nice, functional look to them. This one is no exception. I notice (what I assume is) the shuffle toggle looks unfamiliar. This is from way back before that UI became a convention! I see the repeat icon has stuck around. So interesting!
I, too, was in the navy and supervised this very exercise on a ship. The exercise simulates a doomsday scenario that presumes satellite comms are out after a nuclear strike. Ships and other stations retransmit the messages over HF in order to eventually reach nuclear-armed subs for assured second strike capability. HF, with its semi-BLOS (beyond line of sight) range, is used to form a global communications network without satellites. The range of course depends on how much signal bounces off the atmosphere, which is why many stations are needed for redundancy. The whole exercise is Top Secret.
Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Monday September 28, 2026 @01:12PM (#49881197)
Is that just from this thread/post?? Or am I out of the loop on famous examples of how people use search engines?

Well yeah, different tools are different. That’s the point. You use the one you like. Do you think there is no good file manager available for Linux?

Terminal emulators have tabs and windows already, even macOS’ built in terminal, so what do you mean?

Yes but why
Re:What Is a Harness? on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @02:48AM (#49429949)
Although obviously unserious, I would argue a baby harness is mostly the opposite of what an agent harness does. A baby harness constrains and contains the baby, while an agent harness controls but also empowers the agent.
