That’s a shame, I almost always go for GoG whenever possible. Looks like steam then.

Might have being going for “passed away”

Managers are people too and will have their own emotions they are dealing with.

Re:The Layoff on Sunday February 18, 2024 @06:11AM (#39418122)
About a decade ago I was doing a lot of travel for work - 140 plus flights a year over 6 continents level.

I remember watching a film, “Up in the Air”, about a guy who was contest flying from airport to airport to lay people off because the boss was too much of a wimp to do it himself.

I guess even his job isn’t safe from AI.

Sure some will manage to hack with prompt injection attacks, and potentially get compensation, but those attacks will be fixed.

A choice of two dystopia - one where your brain is controlled by a computer, the other where you are locked in a room.

I see no evidence that the alleged screaming down wasn’t 30 years ago so “these days” is doing some interesting work

I suspect that “screamed down” is also hyperbole

Re:The End of Britain's Weeks-Long General Elections on Saturday February 17, 2024 @10:33AM (#39410361)
Mail in on the U.K. is for a wel or two, but the envelope has to arrive by a certain date/time before the election.

The ballot closes at 10pm, counting starts as soon as the boxes arrive. The first places have counted about 50,000 votes and declared the Reilly by 11pm, most finish about 4am, 6 hours in. The final places (which rely on boxes to travel from various islands on ferries or helicopters) can take nearly 24 hours.

Originally there wasn’t an SDK at all.

To be fair his comment was a waste of time
Good. Adaptive headlights are won’t he U.K. and there are many cases when they don’t work and end up blinding people.

Re:How to copy a file between devices? on Thursday February 15, 2024 @01:14PM (#39386165)
My understanding is that to configure your WireGuard tunnels the tailscale saas layer distributes the keys. If so there’s nothing stopping it distribute a key you don’t control.
That’s been the way in the U.K. for 30 years - power runs into the key, chip in the key of some level of cryptography is used to decode.
I’ve had wireless hire cars. Horrible things, never sure where they key is and tend to come with “features” like automatically locking and setting the alarm if you walk away from the car
I lost the key for my 1997 micra once. no way it was starting without overriding the chip in the key, had to be towed to a dealer to reprogram it.
Re:Indian government moves to ban ProtonMail after bomb threat on Thursday February 15, 2024 @08:38AM (#39382528)
The U.K. has a system where experts in various fields like medicine and engineering are put in the lawmaking process, in addition to experts in becoming elected (ie raising money and selling non tangible ideas to people)

It’s not perfect of course, but in my opinion it’s better than a fully democratic system.

I’ve been confused occasionally by road situations. Somehow I’ve never managed to drive into a multi-ton object.

Don’t you need to have tailscale on the machine (and thus give full access to all your machines to the company) for taildrop to work?

I suspect the argument would be you can’t deep fake in-person interactions
Re:Not all TLDs are Created Equal on Wednesday February 14, 2024 @06:41PM (#39377162)
Sadly the majority of people who didn’t want this are also affected.

I had no problem with a bunch of daily mail readers giving up their freedoms it’s when they took the freedoms of me and my children away that I got annoyed.

Imagine if Texas seceded from the USA and suddenly anyone born in Texas had their American citizenship revoked

OP is a classic imperial citizen with no concept of the world outside his empire

How’s the connectivity in Anguilla?
Re:Not all TLDs are Created Equal on Wednesday February 14, 2024 @04:42AM (#39368177)
The RU did not have to remove the citizenship from millions of people who were born EU citizens and had no say in the minority decision to leave the EU
Re:Not all TLDs are Created Equal on Wednesday February 14, 2024 @04:40AM (#39368170)
OPs citizenship was removed from him without his approval, based on the minority votes of U.K. and foreigners living in the U.K., it is a travesty.
Re:Someone is going to dim the sun, and it will be soon on Tuesday February 13, 2024 @04:21PM (#39363003)
In the real world nuclear costs in the $80 per MWh range, nearly twice that of offshore wind
Re:Someone is going to dim the sun, and it will be soon on Tuesday February 13, 2024 @02:26PM (#39361680)
Nuclear power is not affordable, wind and solar are far more cost effective. Carbon capture is a great application for a variable supply grid as it can easily be load shed.
It’s a cultural change, one that has benefits (I for one don’t want to be a full time homemaker), but also drawbacks

It’s not something an individual can change though. It’s a societal level problem.

1 bed apartment for a couple with a baby and dog?

I’m guessing the 100k/yr is revenue not profit.
