Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @02:37PM (#50122495)
My wife and I share a plugin hybrid and an EV. You'd think the EV is as loud, because you notice the air and tire noises in the absence of the engine noise.

But in the plugin hybrid, the change in noise is very noticeable when the car goes from pure EV into hybrid and the engine kicks in. It's specially loud when the engine revs up as you're accelerating, but even when the car is cruising, I can still hear the engine noise.

In a lot of cases they are claiming that the layoffs are not based on performance. The government's argument is that if there are high-performing American nationals or green card holders that are being laid off, then there is no point in giving more green cards, or H1Bs.
Re:You can't trust macOS Privacy and Security settings on Friday April 10, 2026 @12:49PM (#47720777)
You don't need that permission if the user gives their implicit consent by selecting the Documents directory in the browse window. That's why most apps don't even show up in the Privacy Settings at all. Most apps don't need that, because they don't try to access that directory on their own. They only do it when the user selects the directory.

I guess the improvement can be to show the implicit consent in the privacy settings page as well, and have a way to revoke it.

Re:You can't trust macOS Privacy and Security settings on Friday April 10, 2026 @12:39PM (#47720636)
I guess not. Looks like if you choose the Documents directory once, you give your implicit permission to the app until you choose another restricted directory.
Re:You can't trust macOS Privacy and Security settings on Friday April 10, 2026 @12:35PM (#47720591)
That's not what's happening here. Forget about the first 5 steps. If you install the app and start from step 6, the behaviour will be the same. If the user chooses the Documents folder in the browse window in an app, the app can use the contents of the Documents folder without the need for that permission in the Settings page.

The Privacy settings applies only to access to the Documents folder without the user interaction.

Re:You can't trust macOS Privacy and Security settings on Friday April 10, 2026 @12:27PM (#47720492)
"6. Click on Open from folder and select your Documents folder there. Confirm that works as expected and displays the name and contents of one of the text files in Documents."

It's because in step 6 the user explicitly selected the Documents folder.

The app can access the Documents folder because the user chose that directory in the native file browse dialog during the same run of the app. IMO that's a reasonable trade-off.

US fossil fuel companies also make money from projects outside US. They explore, build the infrastructure, and operate oil fields for other countries.

except that a big chunk of the AI investments is going into buying GPUs that go obsolete much earlier than the 6-8 year time frame.
It's not as simple as documentation. If you document the interface, you need to keep it somewhat stable and backwards compatible.

But if it is internal, then you control both ends of the API, and can change them in tandem.

In the same county, maybe. But electricity is a tradable commodity. The electricity price goes up for the neighbouring counties without the tax benefits.
Have you measured the lag time for your CGM?

Typically the glucose level in the interstitial fluid takes longer to respond to your food intake, and the GCMs measure that instead of the blood glucose level.

Re:M4 Mac mini's efficiency on Tuesday November 12, 2024 @07:10PM (#42121463)
It's a desktop computer. What's keeping you from using an external SSD?
No. I mean the Mail app itself. It can be used like a lite version of Outlook. The app can be used as a client for standard IMAP/POP mail servers. It also has GMail integrations.

The mail is usually downloaded into local mbox files.

Any plans to add support for the macOS Mail app?
There's an integration with ChatGPT, that requires user approval every time.

Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @12:39PM (#40288026)
That's because the previous iPad Pros came with M2, not M3. They are comparing the performance with the previous generation of the same product.

It's not that difficult to build the scanner into the firebase dashboard. Ask the developer to provide their website address, do a basic scanning to find the common vulnerability cases, and warn them.

Yes. Larger SUVs and trucks are making roads less safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and even other cars.

Re:Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access on Friday December 08, 2023 @07:01PM (#38576623)
I am not in the position to judge that. But reducing spam on iMessage is beneficial for Apple customers, and as a customer, I want Apple to be able to do that.
Re:Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access on Friday December 08, 2023 @06:57PM (#38576599)
If they have to use real Apple hardware, and those devices are blocklisted by Apple when the spam is reported, spamming stays cost prohibitive.
Re:Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access on Friday December 08, 2023 @05:58PM (#38575864)
An open source client for iMessage is going to be used for fraud and spam. Before this, a device being blocked by Apple because it was used for fraud or spam would increase the cost of business for fraudsters and spammers. But now it's a matter of picking a new phone number. Of course Apple would try hard to stop this.
