Re:I'm a Proton employee and I'm breaking my silence on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:52PM (#50321032)
Tuta is the obvious choice if you don’t mind using their client.
An email service provider doesn’t need to move fast for any reason whatsoever, and should never, ever break things.
Thanks for the heads up, Andy! I’ll find a new email and vpn provider. It was a good 7 years, admittedly.
Orbstack, no contest
If you haven’t already been running your agents in containers, you’re crazy. That said, this looks like a great way to manage those containers.

You’ll get fired for using a Chinese model here in 6 months.
Sorry to hear the author is disillusioned with writing for human audiences. FWIW I continue to enjoy human writing and rather enjoyed this article.

Eh obsidian commandeered the idea from roam who commandeered the idea from org-mode etc.
Re:uBlock Origin Lite is back on Firefox add-ons on Monday October 05, 2026 @06:33PM (#49971743)
Yes, it is meant for the manifest v3 browsers. I think it has a simpler interface so it may be useful to non technical people.
Re:Don't couple your Go code to GitHub on Monday September 28, 2026 @10:27AM (#49878553)
Yes, but the solution differs. As the author says — updating DNS entries can be considerably less complicated than migrating libraries and their references

The article doesn’t mention any of these namespaces failing as the major issue… he is referring to the challenge of transferring hosting providers, which could be done for various reasons.

Apple Maps is much better in my experience. I've never had an update rejected.

Surprise, case was voluntarily dismissed. Wonder how much they paid him.
Re:Our Servants Will Do That for Us on Friday August 21, 2026 @10:13AM (#49388380)
Even assuming the end-state of all this is Trekonomics -- consider the amount of retired folks that generally just sit around and watch TV. I think a massive culture-shift is in order before we can even consider a healthy society consisting of 0 essential employment.
Because C is the best.
Jeez. Surely the ECS agent could just query for permission to join a cluster, and disable if disallowed?
I would kill to see the equipment intel uses to study these things
Not to mention huge quant firms that paid more than 4x your salary just to get a trading latency advantage
Re:The great wealth transfer reality check on Friday July 31, 2026 @08:47PM (#49130090)
My comment didn’t really portray what I’m getting at. Food insecurity is obviously an indicator for financial confidence. I know people can afford food, on top of the fact they will choose to pay for it because they have to. I know people who have chosen to eat and fall behind on rent. The point is, if you’re worried about your meals, you’re not living the rest of your life with confidence. It’s not something to be brushed aside.
Re:The great wealth transfer reality check on Friday July 31, 2026 @07:41PM (#49129750)
Pretty big gap in quality of life between people who have no worries about their next meal and those who have to stress over every one.
Re:Harddrive Is Probably Full on Saturday July 25, 2026 @01:50PM (#49049864)
I think about this problem often in life because of my tendency to procrastinate. Only the long term effects that cause me serious paranoia get any real attention (failing to meet social expectations, major health issues, large-figure finance problems). It’s absolutely necessary to define the constraints before they define you. This requires a lot of forward thinking and effort but considering how little time we get on this earth… worth it

I don't love that this starts an API server on launch and has no option to disable it...
yes, this is something I have seen used to good effect, for example in the RE:4 remake
No, I’m just saying I don’t know if buying SPY today would be a good idea.
SSAO really is awful but it’s the best performing AO we could get for a long time afaik. It’s such a hallmark of 00s and 10s rendering that I laugh every time I see it in a modern release. There are some new solutions hitting the space, I believe RTGI/PT inherently handles AO, and there is even a new method called ‘FidelityFX CACAO’ which does look considerably more realistic. Things are improving… slowly.
Re:Qubes OS Security in the Public Record on Sunday July 19, 2026 @01:11PM (#48969858)
Ehhh, I think most engineers that actually want this are pretty accepting of their current tooling and wouldn’t want to switch to a whole new Linux distribution just for a slightly more seamless experience. Besides, the people who care are always pushing forward to make the UX better — see devcontainers, Apple Containers, WSL, etc.
The reality is more along the lines of traditional rendering with special ML models inferring and splicing in generated frames. Framegen is already in most modern games and Nvidia has made it a driver level option for many unsupported ones. In case you haven’t used it — it is black magic. Studios will have almost no motivation to optimize if framegen can be perfected, and it’s not far.
Would have been an amazing idea 10 years ago. Not sure anymore.
Fun fact, Gigabyte motherboards do the same thing. Thankfully they give you an option to disable it in BIOS.
Are you sure you've ever gone above 60hz and 60fps? It is unequivocally agreed to look much better
