If they're the type of tone deaf person who thought that the alternative interview was a good idea, how likely do you think it is that they'll take your advice?

Re:Using Claude to reduce the attack surface of code on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @04:29AM (#50177635)
If only Claude didn't constantly drop to less capable models whenever it encountered anything vaguely cybersecurity related (despite being part of the Anthropic Cyber Verification Program and having Mythos access, albeit limited).

We're strongly pushing for a move to a mix of Codex and open models at my workplace because of Anthropic's ridiculous nanny-ing.

Proofs are much easier when one just lists their axioms, leaving the rest an exercise to the reader.
Re:More Floating Point Alternatives on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @02:41AM (#49812488)
> In this conversation, the intended meaning was clear

Apparently it wasn't, as the commenter who originally used the term has now clarified that they did indeed mean non-deterministic. You misunderstood them.

So maybe being specific about terminology here isn't just pointless pedantry?

Re:More Floating Point Alternatives on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @09:26AM (#49800946)
All of which are well defined and can be configured from user space. That doesn't make them non-deterministic.
Re:More Floating Point Alternatives on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @02:23AM (#49797385)
They're not associative, sure. But that's a very far cry from claiming they're non-deterministic.
Re:More Floating Point Alternatives on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @12:55AM (#49796930)
Floating point is deterministic, what are you talking about?

> You just have to use other data types to handle money or complex mathematical operations like 0.2+0.1

Such as... decimal floating point.

You may want to look in a mirror. Your snide tone does not add anything here.

> - if they meant "diameter is similar to Ohio dimensions", they are a little bit off, because Ohio is about 355*355 km and Enceladus diameter is around 500km

I think they used the diagonal of a hypothetical square Ohio: sqrt(355^2 + 355^2) ≈ 502 km.

Good? They don't own the commons.
> First of all, there are many studies that show that plant-based meat alternatives are healthier than their meat counterparts

Define healthier, and link the studies.

I eat vegetarian more often than not these days (although I don't usually use plant-based meat), and I'm not disagreeing with you. But cite your sources rather than making vague health claims.

The beyond burger is decent, but there's no way it's fooling someone in a blind taste test.

One represents rotation in 2D space, the other in 3D. So I think it's a bit more than that.

Yes and no. The x in e^ix is to SO(2) what Euler angles are to SO(3).

Re:Tail-call optimization in C is relatively recent on Monday August 10, 2026 @08:23AM (#49242702)
> In 2001 Mark Probst implemented tail-call optimization in GCC with a separate calling convention; he lists the limitations of the then-existing tail-call optimization in GCC in section 6.4, among them: "It cannot handle indirect calls" (which would have been used in tail calls for interpreter dispatch).

Relatively recent being a quarter of century? Or at least a fifth of a century for indirect calls[1] (GCC 3.4.6 is the earliest I see on Compiler Explorer, released March 2006).
