There may be room to improve in describing the undefinable?
Re:Dumb Pipe on Sunday July 27, 2025 @12:07PM (#44702294)
I took a peek at the terms of service[1] when considering signing up for an account. It seemed unusual to have them in a separate language from the rest of the site.

Presuming the translation was correct I would "agree to comply with Chinese laws ... [and] grant the company a non-exclusive, free, perpetual license for global use (including modification, display, and derivative development)."

[1] https://staying.fun/en/legal/terms-of-service

The personal plan[1] repeatedly emphasizes the word free and makes no mention of the $30+/year optional fees or what features differentiate the levels of service.

I prefer heredoc[1] syntax.

I find it more readable and portable.

Whose popularity do you champion, and what sorts of motive bring deservedness in to the discussion?

I suspect science has had more to do with the reduction than superstitions like jinxes.

Useful discussion is an interesting scope for someone with the broad, in-depth knowledge of a vast array of subjects he demonstrates in the linked essay.

You make a decent point. There's a clear limitation... but a clearly worded prompt often produces more valuable content than an SEO optimized guess article.
The vulnerability sounds like it's inherent to SQL Server, and that cloud providers haven't been successful in blocking the underlying problem due to its proprietary nature.

Presenting it as a Cloud SQL problem is disingenuous.

I'm a little curious, but haven't heard a word of what you're referring to. A quick search for 'atoms stalled' didn't result in anything that felt helpful.

Do you have a link that would clarify?

Re:“True” Randomness vs. “Pseudo” Randomness on Sunday April 02, 2023 @01:30PM (#35412956)
One thing we seem to have discovered is that absolute randomness is harder than it might first seem.

Your idea combines what feels like a significant percentage of randomness while still having enough participation to rationalize buy-in.

It's tough to want to yield control of an important choice to a random number generator... though that's not an inaccurate description for this.

I like this as a perspective on "the illusion of choice". Part of me hates the phrase because I want to believe that I can take meaningful action.

The Cliff comparison is a good one in that it very confident declares its every answer was though it is well-founded fact.

Hi, I'm Bob... welcome to ideators anonymous. If you can't stop incentivizing perspectives, and monetizing paradigms this may be the place for you.

TL;DR "Using IP Address Instead of Domain Name"

Everything else remains pretty much the same...

At first glance, the headline sounded likely to be a conspiracy theory from the other side, not something from NPR.

I'm unable to use mosh after switching VPN clients, though ssh works. What should I discuss and/or request with the security+network folks?

That's not how I expect your choice of mic to affect anyone else's experience.

It would surprise me if additional network load is part of what happens.

Google's pytype seems to be better deployed within the standard PyPi ecosphere. The Microsoft packages you're using aren't.

I see download options for Mac and Windows. Is Linux support in the works? Slack and Teams have us covered.
Re:Deprecating scp on Sunday November 08, 2020 @12:46AM (#25023381)
I suppose this could be easily worked around with an alias presuming the most frequent use case names only files.

alias scp='rsync'

You may be better off not playing with the creepy neighbor.

Did you wind up picking something else?

Re:Scrollbar Blindness on Thursday August 27, 2020 @06:45PM (#24299510)
I've taken to using a fling motion on my Android devices since grabbing the position indicator in a scrollbar is comparatively inconvenient... but performance is fine.
