Er? Android supports multiple VPNs at the same time on the same user profile? Since when exactly?
Re:Someone on Torrent Sites Kept Fucking with My Sonarr on Thursday October 15, 2026 @05:29PM (#50110580)
You can still manually download a torrent, open it in your client, and then open the file in VLC.

You can also automate 99% of it with the *arr stack and completely forget about it.

What is the issue? There is more choice now?

Shut your work devices off at the end of the work day.

Your work-specific WiFi network can also be shut off at the same time.

Devices go in a sleeve or drawer in your desk, which is usually in a separate room.

You can also close the door.

If you need more work and personal life separation than this, you might need a new job.

Re:Firebase SDK is CRASHING ALLLL iOS Apps, since today morning on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @02:07PM (#49897770)
Er no?

Be hyperbolic if you want, but there are LOTS of apps on the Play Store that do not have internet access, let alone a dependency on Firebase.

It's a package manager.

The second header on the main page:

What Does Homebrew Do?

Homebrew installs the command-line tools and applications you need across macOS, Linux and WSL.

Re:Shopify moves back to Native from React Native on Thursday September 10, 2026 @10:51AM (#49644740)
I use Shopify app every day, multiple times a day to run my business and it has always been buggy and inconsistent for me on Android, and I don't expect this will make it any better, especially with more AI in the mix, but we shall see.

Who wants to bet there still won't be a dark mode?

Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to Fail2ban? on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:39AM (#49509683)
Do you really need SSH exposed?

If not, use something like WireGuard (or Tailscale) and bind only to that interface.

You can also change the default port, your logs will quiet down dramatically.

Lastly, if you have a long enough passphrase with enough entropy/randomness, password authentication being enabled is probably fine, you can also set only a specific user allowed to SSH for additional hardening.

"fun" is kinda the last thing I want with my (small) business infra.

It should be rock solid, relatively inexpensive, and from a reliable company with some expected longevity. I want it to be boring, no surprises, never think about it because it Just Works (r).

Because libertarians generally want fewer laws, not more.

If you don't want to run your own VPN, there's Tailscale or CloudFlare Tunnel, both widely known and provided by reputable companies.

Re:Immich v3.0.0 Released on Thursday July 02, 2026 @03:27PM (#48766213)
Okay? So don't use it, use a managed service like Google Photos, Apple Photos, Dropbox, etc where your photos and files might be arbitrarily removed or your access to them limited while they are scanned for disavowed content.

You can also just use a secure transport layer (like WireGuard or a VPN) instead of relying on every project to implement end-to-end encryption.

And this is exactly why people are, have been, and should continue to opt out and/or opt in if they choose.

I appreciate your comment doesn't try to state if these are good or bad things, just that they are.

Re:Android Developer Verification on Monday March 30, 2026 @07:41PM (#47581042)
What you're describing is not "broken", it's the process and it appears it hasn't even failed for you.

My experience with getting a verified "business" developer account from Google mirrors the experience as getting one from Apple, except it's a one-time fee and much less than Apple.

Yes there are hoops to jump through, identification usually requires some hoops, but pretty it's straightforward. I am not commenting on the requirements of these hoops, yes, it's BS that they exist but it's their platform so it's their rules.

What type of "experience" are you expecting to have anyway?

If you want to absolve yourself of personal responsibility, go ahead and blame "them" and "we".

You were free to drink lead-free water the entire time, you just didn't care enough to do so.

Re:1Password Raising Prices ~33% on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @05:01PM (#47143847)
100+ times a day? Explain yourself.

I login/unlock my password manager maybe...a dozen times a week and that would be a high count when I'm doing "business" and logging in for financial things.

Re:uLauncher on Sunday February 08, 2026 @10:41AM (#46935245)
OctoPi Launcher is a solid replacement for Nova, it has swipe up/down functionality.
And what exactly stops this from happening to any company or organization, regardless of being US-based?

If 90% of customers are in the US, they're probably going to comply.

Re:Show HN: An Open Source Alternative to Vercel/Render/Netlify on Thursday January 29, 2026 @09:53AM (#46810979)
Your demo video could be better. As a whole, this looks extremely rushed.

Zooming in and out makes it hard to focus and see what is actually happening.

The cursor moves around very erratically. Difficult to follow.

You really couldn't spend a few minutes to re-record it without the "in action" typo in SAMPLE_VALUE?

Why are you moving between Logs, Compute, Storage, etc. so quickly with no time for the viewer to see what's in there and nothing to highlight?

No, not "only". E2EE is now used as a dog whistle.

Who holds/controls the keys on both ends?

Just some constructive feedback. Your site needs a little bit of work on design and copy.

"test your personal user account one month free for." and other (translation?) mistakes.

Your use of capitalisation and spelling is not consistent throughout each page.

FAQ page is empty?

Quick Manual page is empty?

iOS download link doesn't work.

Your security posture boils down to "we're German, trust us"?
