Re:Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @12:23PM (#49729370)
its impossible in closed source. there is no reason to believe it does what it says it does. only private keys in the chain need to remain secret.
unfortunately this has become typical in Britain, no one can be trusted to have any responsibility or agency. its all systems with room for the real world
Re:Ten Ways NAS Is Getting Enshitified on Saturday August 01, 2026 @03:05AM (#49131880)

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @05:29AM (#49081444)
the EU has been creating testing frameworks, and the UK

much as governments have tended to be slow in tech, they actually seem to be making some solid work on this front

tech companies like Anthropic should be collaborating with these programs

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @03:56AM (#49080753)
they have been very clear they don't want to be the ones deciding
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @03:48AM (#49080702)
is it so hard to fathom that China whilst wanting to beat the US in many ways doesn't want a biological war to destroy the world?
Re:Kill The Cookie Banner on Monday July 27, 2026 @02:19AM (#49065759)
you can say that about a lot of things, but we do largely trust parents. but all these social media bans seem to stem from parents who claim to be helpless, when really they are lazy and the wider impact of these laws is massive. no technical way exists to do this without taking the privacy of everyone
Re:Kill The Cookie Banner on Sunday July 26, 2026 @02:33PM (#49060953)
it's very simpler, i recently got an android tablet for my child and it would take a lot of effort to miss all the stuff about setting it up for a child
Re:Kill The Cookie Banner on Sunday July 26, 2026 @02:32PM (#49060939)
if parents wont make the slightest bit of effort why should the rest of us pay to keep their children safe?
Re:Park by Robot at London Gatwick Airport on Sunday July 26, 2026 @02:31PM (#49060924)

Re:JEP 540: Simple JSON API (Now in Incubator) on Thursday July 23, 2026 @12:54PM (#49024699)

well you can plug the same monitor into a mac and not have this issue.
Re:Spying on kids to save kids from spying is stupid on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @05:50AM (#48657480)
they provide passports for travel, driving licences for driving, national insurance number for taxes, but its not a single id that everyone is required to have

there is no point in it being open source if i cannot modify and run it

Re:Spying on kids to save kids from spying is stupid on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @01:01AM (#48655360)
there is no single government id in the UK at the moment, they currently do not control my identity

you specifically talked about an OS without user changeable software, thats the definition of open source

Re:Spying on kids to save kids from spying is stupid on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @01:37PM (#48648451)
Which part of that is avoiding the distopian control?

the very first line, government issued digital id - we have been avoiding that for a very long time

how does this work on an open source operating system?

Re:Warm up your MacBook (2019) on Thursday May 28, 2026 @12:58AM (#48304722)

Re:The last six months in LLMs in five minutes on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @06:30AM (#48191551)
whats the appeal of that kind of content? its objectively worse than real content, and its not like there is a shortage of real content
makes sense really, nothing this sensible is gonna happen under the current US administration
Re:Mahjong: A Visual Guide on Sunday April 26, 2026 @12:44PM (#47911666)

Re:$3T flows through U.S. nonprofits every year on Sunday March 08, 2026 @03:22AM (#47295309)

Re:What came first: the CNAME or the A record? on Tuesday January 20, 2026 @01:20AM (#46688533)
everything about this reads like an excuse from a team that doesnt want to admit they screwed up

nitpicking at the RFCs when everyone knows DNS is a big old thing with lots going on

how do they not have basic integration tests to check how clients resolve

it seems very unlike cloudflare of old that was much more up front - there is no talk of the need to improve process, just blaming other people

Re:What came first: the CNAME or the A record? on Tuesday January 20, 2026 @01:16AM (#46688504)
its pretty concerning that such a large organisation doesnt do any integration tests with their dns infrastructure
