Well in my experience golang Is a long ways from this anyway ... It's a very prescriptive language
Re:Riffing on `interpose` implementations in Ruby on Sunday January 07, 2018 @04:09AM (#16089999)

Re:Show HN: Work at a Startup – Find a Job at a YC Company on Wednesday December 13, 2017 @09:29PM (#15919517)
Not everyone can get hired by a name brand company. No need to rub it in
I personally use bandcamp. You can see best sellers from basically any super niche or not so niche genre
This is really true. I used to use grooveshark, which is very similar to spotify in terms of functionality, but what it had that spotify lacks is user generated playlists. I find spotify horrible for finding new music, however once you know who you want to listen to its great.
Re:Pixelbook with a fingerprint scanner may still be a reality on Tuesday December 05, 2017 @09:15PM (#15857978)
I would rather have a right click button
I interviewed with you guys (didnt get hired but that's ok) and this was the first, thing that came to mind. Good luck
Re:Cyclists should buy a camera to capture accident evidence on Sunday November 12, 2017 @08:46PM (#15683667)
I agree, dashcams, have become very cheap, the main thing is people dont get around to it
Swearing seems such a light reason though
Re:The best boilerplate app is the one you code yourself on Thursday November 09, 2017 @02:21AM (#15660522)
I discovered this myself, creating boilers is underrated.
Re:Take Home Programming Interviews Suck on Tuesday November 07, 2017 @11:30AM (#15644748)
I dont think theyre equally as bad. Its too tempting to try and go above and beyond for a take home coding challenge, end up spending days on it, and get zero feedback. I would much prefer an onsite or strictly timed test than a loose deadline homework problem
Does this support non osx hardware like a windows machine?
Not automatic, but I like shotwell for linux because it has bulk tagging and writes then to,the image files as metadata
Re:Suicide Linux on Tuesday October 31, 2017 @02:02AM (#15591377)
This begs the question of what the hell is the point of the bang convention e.g. find! in this case.
Call the police
Or drugs.
He unchecked "send diagnostics" because he didn't want to help google. What the fuck
Re:The concept of schizophrenia is dying on Tuesday October 31, 2017 @01:09AM (#15591205)
I was diagnosed schizoid because I was a smartass and said I could "hear things that others couldn't".
Re:Facebook denies 'listening' to conversations on Sunday October 29, 2017 @11:15PM (#15582907)
Oh my god stop being so dramatic, both of you. The vast majority of people are not actively contritubing to the sorry state of data privacy nor are they heroically working to fix it. Put the blame where its due.
Re:Napa.js: A multi-threaded JavaScript runtime on Sunday October 22, 2017 @12:56AM (#15525219)
Its a bad example because saying something is unlimited when its not is kind of bullshit not just semantics.

There are situations when I think its best to just go with the flow of how people are commonly using words but simply accepting what others say in a blanket sense is not right either. In the case of "serverless" it doesnt really matter much to me, but if you think of the word "gyp" for example thats something many people have had to make a conceited effort to stop using. So in some cases, with effort we can improve the language we use and not always be swimming against the tide.

Re:‘Origami robot’ that can be ingested on Sunday October 22, 2017 @12:42AM (#15525185)
Wow this headline does not do it justice at all
Re:FactoryGirl has been renamed FactoryBot on Sunday October 22, 2017 @12:30AM (#15525164)
This is good. Yes factory girl is a really awkward name and I found myself pondering this as I used the tool in the past.
These are still a great option if you want a concisely written and highly customized program. I think there's a reason we dont see such a big framework as rails gaining popularity in the node world and thats because people don't want their code hidden behind a big boilerplate. That being said rails is still the best ruby framework for an organization looking for something "safe" and generic.
Re:Announcing CoffeeScript 2 on Monday September 18, 2017 @05:07PM (#15279593)
I found using the coffeescript loader for webpack solves all these problems. You cant execute cs in the browser but you still can place breakpoints in the original code. The compilation to js is not novel anyway, its the same thing as we see with ESnext just on a bigger scale.
Re:Announcing CoffeeScript 2 on Monday September 18, 2017 @05:04PM (#15279572)
I think its likely that at some point in the future cs will get strong type support. Iirc the creator is opposed to it but theres interest from others.
Re:Announcing CoffeeScript 2 on Monday September 18, 2017 @05:03PM (#15279556)
Its actually a great example of Coffeesctipt conciseness, the jQuery ready function is just $ ->
Re:Announcing CoffeeScript 2 on Monday September 18, 2017 @05:01PM (#15279530)
Exactly. I'm glad to see people arent absolutely shitting on it here like they have been over the past year or two, which is when I started using it,
So if somebody worth 10x as much as shkreli offered 50k for a crime we should know its a joke? Also, what is funny about this? He is a chemist, so if anything saying that he needed it for his lab would make it note believable. The justice system in this country is very cold, and a lot of people get locked up.
Re:Tim Cook: Apple products aren't just for the rich on Tuesday September 12, 2017 @11:19PM (#15235241)
Its Also for students in debt and the "middle class".
