I feel like pharmaceuticals and aircraft are quite expensive by mass
That’s kind of like saying ‘anarchy’ is an organisation because it has a logo people associate with it. But anarchy and antifacisim are concepts

I feel like knowing something is true is useful, but if you don’t understand how and why, you won’t understand the implications
Re:Iceland rejects reopening talks on EU entry on Monday August 31, 2026 @03:01AM (#49506515)
I thought that’s what we did in the uk because we were truly meant to be out?
Re:Google loses fight over record $4.7B EU antitrust fine on Thursday July 02, 2026 @06:20AM (#48759125)

If they lost the case, and the appeal was dismissed, what is ‘alleged’ about it?

Re:Can you see three trees? on Saturday June 20, 2026 @07:49PM (#48614237)
Haha. Those are things I like about Hackney

Not sure. 30% sounds like a lot. The streets in central Amsterdam _might_ have 30% cover if you don’t count the water, but what about the houses, gardens, etc?
But the party verifying that the person matches the id doesn’t need to know what the claim is for
Re:Apple is about to make Hide My Email useless on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @06:31PM (#48577887)
Like yes that, but also. Why would I want to hide my email from someone but not from Apple? And why can’t I turn it off and choose not to hide my email? This is one of my top Apple ‘features’ that would make me migrate away, if not for android being similarly awful
I feel like batteries, while they won’t work for weeks, exist overnight as well.

Because they don’t remember anything?

Really? How large? I’ve only managed to crash it with hundreds/thousands of files so far, but haven’t so many huge files to deal with.
I kind of assumed brexit would make people give up pretending, but that doesn’t seem to have happened
That doesn’t make a difference though because of the cloud act
According to a quick search the nyc subway is $2.90 rising to $3 next year. This is comparable to, but slightly less than a zone 1 off peak ticket in London at £2.70. Most journeys are more expensive (on the train, busses are pretty cheap here)
While I don’t disagree, I think it’s worth noting that the Netherlands has a pretty good level of social housing. Not perfect, but I think it’s 26% based on the stats link in the parent. Also rent controls. Although these also tend to reward people who have been in the system longer (which _might_ be by design, but that’s just like my opinion)
Maybe? You can deduct losses. If you have to sell a little of your crypto while the price is high to pay your taxes, then what have you lost after it goes to zero? At least the tax office get something out of it in tat case.
Re:Things I Don't Like in Configuration Languages on Tuesday November 18, 2025 @03:21AM (#45962670)
I’ve often wondered the same. The op doesn’t go far beyond:

> The era of XML is in the past.

Which is about as deep as it seems to get. My suspicion is that the reason people don’t like it is because it’s a bit of a pain to work with in JavaScript

Why do you keep saying she wasn’t imprisoned? She was imprisoned in a convent and then in a mental institution.

Edit: clarification

Re:A New Form Factor for Drones: Vertical and Coaxial on Friday March 21, 2025 @07:49AM (#43434512)
I guess they decided that auto play video wasn’t _quite_ irritating enough
I’d say that it’s pretty normal in the Netherlands to be very close to a park. It’s a very densely populated country. In Amsterdam specifically I think they consciously decided a few hundred years ago the parks should be everywhere. It’s hard to generalise about the EU as it’s pretty large and diverse, but most of the places I’ve been, 3 miles would be a long way to go in a city. I would expect to come across several parks of varying sizes, shops, schools, etc. In the countryside there are fewer facilities generally, but less need for parks.
Three miles is quite a long way though. From central Amsterdam, for example, it’s basically as far as the ring road and contains all the main parks
Re:"Wherever you get your podcasts" is a statement on Friday February 09, 2024 @05:29AM (#39313421)
I'm trying to understand what you mean by this. Their podcasts still show up in e.g. Apple Podcasts and Pocketcasts. If you look at the 'podcasts' page for e.g. '13 Minutes to the Moon'[1] (which I hadn't realized there was a third season of), there is a (small) link to the rss[2]
