> The fact you think all your political opponents are racists and evildoers is why the left lost in 2016, and in 2024.

I didn’t say that, I said that the current administration is an ally to racists and business owners who benefit from undocumented labor. This is just established fact at this point.

> Notice how it isn’t Australians or Germans ending up having to be rounded up by ICE.

Plenty of law abiding people who come here legally have been rounded up https://www.cbsnews.com/atlanta/news/south-korean-workers-de...

Which begs the question, why are white South African refuges welcomed by the admin while skilled work visa South Koreans are not?

But I think we agree more than we disagree- there should be a reasonable path towards citizenship that is rate limited. I think we might disagree on the rate limit and the reasonableness of the current path, but that’s an argument I would love to have over the current one we’re having over if the masked federal officers should be allowed to racially profile people and hold them at gunpoint without identifying themselves.

I agree, we should revise the laws to reflect what the people actually want- a reasonable path towards citizenship for immigrants working, paying taxes and not causing problems.

But that isn’t what the right wants; a modern coalition of racists who want no immigrants, and opportunists who want a underclass of labor that can’t organize, vote or otherwise fight back currently is in power.

And that coalition is in power after successfully scapegoating immigrants to average Americans who have no idea what the Byzantine legal citizenship process looks like now when they repeat that they want “legal immigrants”.

I’m not sure who this plan is for honestly, for general purpose LLMs in the Gemini-quality-tier how are you using enough tokens to justify $200 / month over just using deepseek over openrouter? And if you need a more capable model than that, like Gemini 4 argon, why not get a Claude subscription? Maybe the family sharing parts make it worth it?
It’s not that controversial; usually I end up arguing with people who don’t believe utilities are natural monopolies rather than no government control. They usually point to starlink with the internet and solar + battery on power as incumbents that don’t need public easement. But that easement is too hard to compete with still imo and we ought to just have a public option.

I don’t think you are going to vibe code your own bank or store website, you (or your agent) will still use their interface, no?

This is beside the point of the analogy though.

An LLM automating web developers with 99% success rate saves the company millions of dollars and allows them to launch products and features faster.

A truck or a car that has a 99% success rate would be the top threat to society and quickly rise to the leading cause of death under 30 if widely deployed.

The honest answer is that the team is pretty happy with the text to image of Krea 2 and our team prioritized editing which was the big gap in the previous model’s capabilities.

We know users are used to using one model for everything though and have already turned our attention to the text to image side; that message is to let people know that the text to image performance is not final, we expect the final tuning of Krea 3 to beat Krea 2’s high bar there soon.

I think this is related to the structures we’ve built in society. It’s lower friction to write software than just about any of the problems you listed.

It reminds me of the Ezra Klein quote that “OpenAl would need permits to cover its parking lot in solar panels, but it can accelerate into recursive self-improvement, as best I can tell, whenever it so chooses."

There are lots of artists using generative ai in the same way there are artists using photoshop. It’s about control and intent, and it only gets weird with gen ai because you can give away both and still get results. Many people do take the role of a non creative manager, but that doesn’t meant you have to.

Anthropic’s IPO?
I’m worried why many big companies aren’t worried about when the shoe is on the other foot.
It has happened to me actually with the snap spectacle things.

Idk why we’re acting like people are hysterical the dangers of always on displays and cameras versus phones that go in pockets have been debated for over a decade now with Google glass. People do not like it for legitimate reasons.

It is less noticeable in person than a phone out and pointed at you yes. And I would react similarly.
Your phone has to be out of your pocket and raised up to record me, which I can notice.
It’s not hard architecturally, but it is hard to find or create good datasets of images on the magnitude you want. I suspect the qwen team heavily used synthetic data for this.
I don’t agree it’s that small. I think that the tools have advanced to the point where there are maybe 100 people pushing it forward at each company but a shortlist of thousands who would love to take their place and would be more than capable of it if entrusted with the compute and resources the current heads are.

Re:U.S. State Department Pauses Immigrant Visa Applications on Thursday August 27, 2026 @10:57AM (#49465934)
This is not that, these are people seeking to immigrate to the United States legally getting jerked around instead of a process that approves or denies them on a set timeline.
Where would you get enough pre internet tokens to train a near-frontier model?
I think deregulation of the banking sector at the very least contributed to the G in the GFC which congresses under Clinton and Bush did.
Congress sets the budgets (well, is supposed to, but yes there has been pretty excessive delegation to the executive) so you really want to say every Congress # + White House.

When you break it up that way, there have been several fiscally conservative congresses + good presidency combos, most notably under Clinton where they reformed welfare, increased taxes and managed to get a budget surplus one year. The formula seems to be slim Democratic Party majorities in Congress with a Democrat president.

So yes it’s rare but good governance + rising tides can make a difference.

I assume they pass the image alongside the text to redo/recheck the work. Yes this is silly, but is apparently required to get around refusals.

Re:Nvidia's Risky Business on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @11:57AM (#49260286)
I think efficiency is unlikely to result in lower demand for compute, instead more useful compute per watt increases the value of that compute; and we are not going to run out of economically useful things to do with it anytime soon on the demand side.

The harder thing to forecast for me is if we hit a wall on increasing efficiency, either on the model weights side or silicon side, with current approaches. If we have to switch to something like burning the model weights into silicon to continue to make gains, then the current math on general purpose accelerators might be upside down.

If China keeps releasing LLMs with such permissive licenses it probably works better since the pretraining rnd is subsidized and de-risked - but that’s a big if.
Re:Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork on Monday August 03, 2026 @12:26PM (#49157910)
The exception being the token embeddings and lm head (which scale with the number of tokens the model knows and presumably you need a smaller number in the tokenizer for only English and python). But those are a pretty small % of the total model weights on most LLM sizes
Re:Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork on Monday August 03, 2026 @01:27AM (#49151553)
Honestly the 27b dense one punches way above its weight in a lot of domains, especially coding in my testing, so I think you will probably be disappointed.
