Re:Advertisers Could Soon Demand 'Verified Clicks' on Friday August 28, 2026 @04:35PM (#49483926)
There's a survey that pops up on Twitter/X every now and then asking about a specific brand and it always asks whether I remember seeing an ad for that brand... I usually cannot, but I'm going to assume that X knows whether it showed me an ad or not.

Completely agreed about being influenced without knowing it.

Re:The Amazon Tax on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @10:59AM (#49346617)
Yes, if you can even get your product high enough on the rankings to make a sale.

The incumbent has a massive advantage, making it harder for a new (but better) product to get on the first page.

Assembly programmers made the same argument. It seems that we revisit this same trope each time the practice of software engineering undergoes a paradigm shift.

Some have a harder time with the transition than others.

Indeed. It's very bad.
Re:GLM 5.2 and the coming AI margin collapse on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @01:53PM (#48821202)
Quite a lot of people think they're far better engineers than they really are, myself included. I've gotten better over the past few years at realizing that AI writes better code than me, which has made it easier for me to stick to architecture and let the (working) code be what it is.
Re:98% Isn't Much on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @10:57AM (#48818750)
I'm not sure this is a realistic use case to try and support. A 10 year old android phone likely has a battery life measured in 10s of minutes, and really isn't something we need to worry about.
Re:Claude Sonnet 5 on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @04:18PM (#48738623)
I've been working to use the best model for the task for about 6 months and have found great success doing plan with the 'frontier' model but punting implementation down to a 'lesser' model. I'm using the Beads-Rust (a rust fork of GasTown's beads) as my issue tracker. So far, so good.
Re:Have You Restarted Your Computer This Week? on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @11:02AM (#48733704)
I've followed the same routine each Friday for at least the past 10 years.

- Install all updates

- Save tabs off to Obsidian (or Raindrop now)

- Reboot

Feels good coming in on Monday to a fresh session.

Re:Tidal AI Policy on Monday June 29, 2026 @10:02AM (#48719417)
Not sure about the stated principal, but I do think it follows the policy nicely. Yes, you can upload your AI generated music, but it will be tagged as such, and you cannot profit from it.
Re:Data centers trigger voter backlash on Friday June 26, 2026 @05:42PM (#48692356)
NIMBYism has been popular for a long time. People really do want datacenters (or at least, the things that having datacenters enable).. they just want them somewhere else.
