I don't see it as a bigger phone.

It's a new thing.

Not a phone. Not a laptop. Not an iPad.

It's an agent terminal.

Re:Apple increases MacBook and iPad prices by 20% on Thursday June 25, 2026 @05:18PM (#48679331)
I gladly paid $1,499 for an iBook G4 in 2005. (~$2,572 inflation adjusted)
I've tried the LG UltraFine and LG UltraGear (w/144hz) ... still went with the Studio Display. Expensive, but my previous Thunderbolt display gave me 12 solid years – hoping the SD does the same.

Edit: Also consider the price of speakers, camera, hub, power, and the "it just works" factor.

Dear Apple, Please do not add liquid glass to your professional applications. Keep it simple, gray, performant, and functional. Thank you.

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
Re:M4 MacBook Pro on Wednesday October 30, 2024 @02:08PM (#41998364)
I feel the same way about my M1 Macbook Air ... it's such a silly small and powerful machine. I've got money to upgrade, I just have no need. It's more than enough for even demanding Logic sessions and Ollama for most 8b models. I love it.

Well said.

But yes, we should all be re-reading Progress and Poverty (1879), as our world shares many similarities.

My daughter said there are 5 oceans ... I said she was wrong, then we looked at a modern map. Who forgot to send out the memo about the Southern Ocean?

> Astronaut James Irwin, the eighth person to walk on the Moon, experienced a religious epiphany during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971. The following year, he resigned from NASA and founded an evangelical organization, the High Flight Foundation. During his outreach work, Irwin met Eryl Cummings in 1976 and expressed interest in joining one of his expeditions in search of Noah's Ark.

Seeing our vulnerable blue planet floating through space must trigger some primordial fear of annihilation, as this seems to be a common experience among astronauts.

More trains please. High-speed rail between cities, lightrail between suburbs, streetcars between neighborhoods, and better shoes for everywhere else.

I love reading things like this that reinforce my belief that I personally know very little about anything. _back to writing CSS for me :)_

Era 1: Nobody knows what they're doing

Era 2: Everyone uses jQuery

Era 3: Everyone copies Gmail and Grooveshark using Backbone and Angular

Era 4: React is all the hipster bootcamps teach

Era 5: NextJS and React Native is how you build apps

I've been brainwashed by consumers – they demand and expect a certain experience on the modern web. Also, you can run Next.js on a Raspberry Pi and free Cloudflare DNS+SSL.

At some point in each of our lives, we'll be dependent on the empathy of another to keep us alive and comfortable. Designing and discovering technology now will help us all then, and help others that are suffering right now.

Thank you for bringing up WISV-IV – it's a fascinating way to categorize intelligence.

My son (11yo) is autism spectrum and recently received a WISV-IV evaluation and found him off the charts for spacial reasoning. It immediately had me thinking about object oriented programming and conceptualizing digital processes spatially.

Perhaps functional patterns are preferred by those with faster "processing speed" of thought or "working memory" – basically thinking primarily of "just before" and "just after".

My anecdotal experience has shown that the coworkers who think "the fastest" prefer functional patterns, whereas those who think slower but more comprehensively prefer object oriented.

Also anecdotally, functional programmers rarely leave the keyboard, whereas OOP spend a lot of time on the mouse – both are equally productive at the end of the day.

Re:You want enabling CSS selectors, not disabling ones on Tuesday August 31, 2021 @06:25PM (#28374416)
Interesting way to think – we use additive color (RGB) on web so why not additive styling?

But in practice while creating interfaces, we're making broad brush strokes, then accommodating exceptions, like :last-child.

Also curious about how browsers prioritize the render stages – does every style get applied sequentially (hence cascading), or do pseudo selectors get applied later during the paint?

If the entire nervous system contributes to cognition, then you would assume that stimulating more of the body would stimulate more cognition – or "pseudorandom ideas".
Anyone have good/bad experience moving from 1Password to Apple' iCloud Keychain?

I've recently been using keychain for new accounts, but not sure I wanna bite the bullet and go all in - just need a nudge.

On a 109ppi Apple Thunderbolt Display, the blockquote text looks like it was printed on a dot matrix printer from 1994.
