this is not how it works.

does not follow

Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @07:55AM (#50315232)
hn is purely a rumor mill now (you are correct).
Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @07:55AM (#50315227)
Is this supposed to be clever? Their assets serve their business (you know ... like any normal company) and that business is selling tokens.
Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:40AM (#50313778)
There is absolutely no timeline where Apple acquires any token provider because Apple doesn't sell tokens.

This isn't even a public tool so how exactly does it conflict?

"unhinged" take

> He doesn't pay TAs. The university does. They work for the university, not for individual professors.

faculty research overhead pays for department TAs. that's why departments with rich professors maintain their TAs even through budget cuts.

define:irony

"your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could they didn't stop to think if they should"

why are you comparing to your buddy? we're talking about software products?

man fox news has really done a number on people's brains.....

Re:No Need for Retirement When Utopia Is Around the Corner on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:27PM (#50211562)
Smoking pole means sucking dick lol so actually as tongue in cheek (no pun intended) it actually kind of works (ie someone got VC by quid pro quo sexual favors)
Re:No Need for Retirement When Utopia Is Around the Corner on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:39AM (#50210827)
I don't see anyone outraged? I see someone commenting on how internet "discourse" is just gossip when it used to be fairly rigorous. Which is accurate, especially here on hn where almost every comment just repeats something from another post ("modular is going to change world" as if we all didn't see the modular content marketing piece just above.....)

FYI accusing someone of being outraged to distract from their point is called "appeal to emotion". Whether op is outraged or not has bearing on whether the observation is accurate.

People love saying this as a gotcha. Please do tell how so.

The two customers are Apple and FB. The former will never switch and the latter already has.

Terrence Howard is that you?
Link?
they're releasing this today because the pytorch conf is this week...
lol no this is a replacement for https://github.com/pytorch/xla
> Imagine if someone suggested that cars existed for the sake of competition

are the mathematicians the cars here? what are you even saying? the question is whether elite mathematicians do the work they do primarily for competition and compensation or for the love of the field. now ask yourself: do F1 drivers do it primarily for the love of the sport or for the money?

> delivery drivers

people getting scooped by OAI are not the "delivery drivers" of the math world.

> You clearly live in a world you don't understand.

i have a phd in pure math. you sure i'm the one that doesn't understand this world?

> Mathematics isn't about "winning competitions".

yea that's why there are no named prizes awarded to mathematicians which come with hundreds of thousands of dollar in prize money....

lol do you people actually live in this world?

Re:Development statistics for the 7.2 kernel on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:04PM (#50142943)
i have no idea what this means
Re:Development statistics for the 7.2 kernel on Saturday October 17, 2026 @08:18PM (#50136565)
Since you're such a philosopher apparently what's your response then

> You must have a very weak understanding on this topic

i work on the codegen for a C compiler i'm pretty sure my understanding is better than yours <shrug>

EDIT: and also you've clearly never read that article

> One of the key attributes of a low-level language is that programmers can easily understand how the language’s abstract machine maps to the underlying physical machine

so you did exactly imply "C is a low level language"
