The linguist in me can't decide if girl names are more dynamic (there are more options) or less dynamic (they don't get used for boys as often).

Re:Napping characteristics and incident dementia on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:44PM (#50343452)
This was how I read it as well. Having a neurological issue that causes you to fall asleep in the middle of the day would logically be a good thing to check for correlation with dementia risk. Separate from not needing to nap, but choosing to.
While the philosophy is always interesting on what an original thought is, in this context most folks use terms like "truly creative" as a proxy for "something folks enjoy that doesn't feel like a copy of something else". Emphasis on _feel_.
I assume they don't see themselves as a video game company anymore (although the marketing won't reflect that). They see themselves as a media company with IP to be mined.
> There is never going to be a moment where a massive problem created by AI finally arrives and everyone throws their hands up and says “oh no we should have just coded by hand all along!”

This is a shortcoming of this way of thinking, IMHO. It's incredibly unlikely that we will never, ever face a massive problem caused by AI.

Re:A tiny Pacific country rolls out universal basic income on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:19AM (#50325948)
Let's not forget that in a functioning economy, living and consuming goods _is_ value-creating.
If war is a constant of humanity, better it be against the seaweed than the people. Jokes aside, I agree, but in general folks love dramatic names.
That's close, but basic capitalism is where those who were able to extract the most value from _previous_ resources are able to acquire current and future resources using the value they previously acquired. Managed capitalism is one of the forms where resources eventually get allocated more efficiently. In practice, anyway (philosophically, systems are better than in reality).
I was really hoping you'd go all in and use rare words in that sentence just for the joke.
Re:Simple circuits can create complex behaviors on Saturday October 31, 2026 @04:29PM (#50319830)
This is pedantic and nonsensical, IMHO. White is well defined as "the lightest color" [0]. There is nothing "whiter than white" in the objective sense. It's also a very common topic in introductions to philosophy in order to define how one makes an apology.

While it may have been a secondary reason, it's named after the snake for the sensory "heat seeking" attribute: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crotalus_cerastes

The usual marketplace tactics. Dashpass and promotional feautes, search rankings, etc. Well documented.
Re:My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:13PM (#50312266)
Also the peak console experience for me as an 80s kid, but the RRoD means MS definitely didn’t get it right.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Friday October 30, 2026 @10:19AM (#50304296)
You can’t really refuse their business if they want you to be on the app. They will just add you and direct the driver to pay with the issued card like any other customer. The consumer still sees it as “you accept DoorDash orders” though. Then the sales pressure starts since they have your customers.
You’re not wrong.
Re:Challenge Is Gone on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:41AM (#50231494)
Come join those of us that enjoy solving problems at work but aren’t driven by it. The water is fine, the weather is usually decent, and the existential terror of “failing” goes away eventually. We have the same problems and worries but sleep a bit better when things go wrong.
Re:Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:32PM (#50189545)
Same. I have consistently left feedback that even the idea of such policies makes me choose airbnb less. Haven’t used them in several years now due to the possibility.

That's usually what happens when making pop culture references.

I assume they need these models to stop being replaced in 1-2 months though.
It wasn't so long ago in America that having a private email server was actually the main complaint about a presidential candidate. Everyone knows that they all do it one way or another.
We joke but you know there will be AI Judges on reality TV soon enough.

Were pie and punch served?
Sure, no problem there and good examples of what I mean.
We can enjoy them for what they are. A bunch of fans arguing online doesn’t detract from the majority who will just play the game and enjoy it.
It’s the second remake for OoT (it had a DS version as well). It holds similar status to FF7 in that it was the first 3D version of its franchise and brought a lot of new blood into the fanbase.
No reasonable person walked out of a Blockbuster thinking they permanently owned a rented film. There are plenty of transfers of currency without implied ownership.

Having the survivors of the Great Depression around was amazing as far as mindsets go. I miss those folks.

Our daughter went the bathtub route when we unscrewed the lights in her room. Was proud of her but thankfully she started getting to sleep eventually.

Sounds like the epitome of amazing for its time but not a powerful computer.
