GPD Pocket / GPD microPC seem to be the only "small PC" products nowadays. But they do not support calling and SMS (they have 4G modem option for data, but it's not seemingly not very good).
At that point I think I might get one of those and use them as an everyday computing device (with Waydroid for Android apps) plus a small light Android phone for calling, tethering and locked down apps that do not work otherwise.

As far as I can tell, it flags unlocked bootloaders? So this is already huge freedom lost.

I guess this is more meant as an replacement for Chrome OS? That one is already pretty locked down, so switching to Android does not change much.

I found that big part of learning on Anki is creating the cards myself. Using cards from others / generated cards via LLM is not the same.

Lately I've noticed many projects on Github either using F-droid or Obtainium. Play Store has really become toxic to anyone not a corporation.

I think OnePlus one comes the closest. It came with Cyanogen OS out of the box (a version of Cyanogen od, predecessor to the LineageOS)

For me personally, timed reminder is a must have. Being able to give some task a date and then forget about it until its due and gives me proactive reminder. As far as I know, no text-based system is capable of that.

I am very pleased with my Boox device running Kaleido 3. All reviewers kept bashing the screen, but it's perfectly fine. Yes it's not as bright as B&W e-ink devices and colors are not as vivid as LCD/OLED, but honestly, when not comparing it directly side by side, it's perfectly adequate for both reading books and comics.

You can get Lutris: It's an open source launcher that you login into with GOG account and it will download the games and wrap them with Wine, similar to Steam.
