Does anyone know if they’re struggling with Discord compatibility?

I wish there was an open standard like we have with email, which I guess is IRC. There’s something frustrating about seeing services like Twitter and Discord holding dominance over such primitive concepts.

Ambitious, but absolutely not "the fastest browser in existence"
It's the brogrammer echo chamber. They discuss everything and anything the people of silicon valley are interested in.
Re:Is Mozilla Firefox Getting Sketchy? on Saturday October 09, 2021 @11:13PM (#28815435)
WebKit is under LGPL, why do we even care about Firefox anymore?

Yup, everything popular is evil and bad. Run away to your ivory towers.

A text processor written in C#, GROUNDBREAKING!
What happened to everyone talking up the “customization” aspects? Guess we’ll have to accept the fact that it’s just a gameboy with an AMD64.
I swear HN makes up the majority of users who actually give a shit about that prehistoric Netscape fork.
Re:Ask HN: How do you stay motivated and productive? on Wednesday October 06, 2021 @04:52PM (#28778273)
This. so. much.

If your life feels empty and you're unhappy working for some no name company in an entry level role, do you really think being chief sr. lead back end architect at Google is going to flip everything around?

Not to be a hater but is any site really powered by a custom language? Or is it merely just a JS front end.
Re:Ask HN: What are the biggest problems in your life? on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @02:11PM (#28763257)
I don’t want to discourage you, but A LOT of software engineering is fixing things.

Coming from someone who also said “I want to build things not fix them” when I picked CS when I was 18.

To be fair, I went to ODU though and didn’t have the best grades.

Good luck

It’s really only the plaintext styling that contributes to the humble appearance.
Re:The big alcohol study that didn't happen on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @12:25AM (#28755494)
A lot of people really love the “social lubricant” phenomenon. If you’re one of those people, ask yourself, does it seem reasonable to rely on a substance for something as simple as communication?
Re:Things Go needs more than generics on Sunday October 03, 2021 @11:47PM (#28742856)
Are generics not essential in a modern industry language? How else can you avoid rewriting data structures? Void pointers and polymorphic parameters expect the programmer know the underlying type.
Re:Google developing own CPUs for Chromebook laptops on Saturday October 02, 2021 @04:07PM (#28731609)
It’s cool to see 25+ yrs of x86 dominance schism off into all these Arm variants.

I just hope we don’t see problems with portability like it’s the 70’s again.

Re:Vimeo Has Removed “Password Protection” in Vimeo Basic on Saturday October 02, 2021 @01:46PM (#28730474)
No option but to upgrade or leave the obviously struggling YouTube clone that desperately attempted to redress itself as a SaAS
Re:Vimeo Has Removed “Password Protection” in Vimeo Basic on Saturday October 02, 2021 @12:17PM (#28729766)
The fact someone went out of their way to dig up anything about Vimeo is remarkable.

The developer equivalent of a housekeeper taking adderall and spending 5 hours polishing the corner of the bathroom.
Re:Firefox Wayland Development in 2021 on Friday October 01, 2021 @04:50PM (#28723272)
In this years Software Olympics, developers attempt to get the worlds largest abandoned internet browser compatible with the worlds most slowly developed display protocol.
Billionaire intellectuals that privately fund space programs are surprisingly unethical.

Re:Rome will be written in Rust on Tuesday September 21, 2021 @11:10PM (#28612743)
But how much do those type of performance benefits matter to JS tools like a linter?

The only positive they’re getting out of a native compiler language is unnoticeable performance boosts.

Re:Rome will be written in Rust on Tuesday September 21, 2021 @03:24PM (#28608804)
There’s not much the author listed that can’t be applied to typescript or any other JS compatible languages.

Rewriting their JS tools in a language as low level as Rust is asinine.

I have no doubt it’s a weak attempt to indulge in their fanboyism. I wouldn’t be surprised if this change causes massive technical debt, but people seem to love Rust, so there’s gotta be someone for this role.

Re:How Inuit parents teach kids to control their anger (2019) on Friday September 17, 2021 @08:01PM (#28572236)
“ Briggs persuaded an Inuit family to "adopt" her and "try to keep her alive," as the anthropologist wrote in 1970.”

Oh like some native tribe totally didn’t have their own shit to worry about.
