There is no Nobel Prize for economics: https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/economic-sciences/

Alfred Nobel did not name economics in his will and it only started to be given out 70 years later by a bank in memory of Nobel.

Putting a single person in charge will always corrupt them

That would be news to me. Which country are you referring to?
what is this even supposed to mean?

Is every software dev who instructs agents regularly now an agentic engineer?

Don't people feel bad about misusing the engineering term so badly?

not democracy, but capitalism

Seems unlikely all these people would give up living where they were socialized. Where was it tried before and fleeing observed?

I found a study saying the effect was minuscule in Norway, Sweden and Denmark https://taxjustice.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Taxing-ext...

> Our voters don't want to pay higher taxes, so that's the state of things.

So the alternative is to act against the law and not answer FOIA requests? You should demand high enough taxes to fulfill your obligations. If voters are unhappy about their height, they should elect people who make different laws the next time.

I am not chinese and I assume neither are you. Yes, I believe there is also no coherent chinese culture. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_groups_in_China

As far as I understand there are groups in China accusing the Chinese government of ethnic erasure. China’s "Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress," which took effect on July 1, 2026, codifies the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) policy of cultural assimilation.

> Yet to deny the existence of Chinese culture or Chinese people would not only be extremely offensive, it would be genocidal language.

Please read the definitions of genocide and ethnic erasure again. I do not deny anything, I just say i believe it didn't exist.

> I don't care at all about ethnicity ...

> concerned that the German culture get erased within a few generations

It seems to me that you do not know what ethnicity means.

> They are concerned that the German culture get erased within a few generations, because to many people with a too different cultural background enter the society

I addressed that by saying there has never been a coherent German culture

Arguments like these are what hateful racist say.

Germans are people having a German passport. They will not be a minority. There is already no single German ethnicity as the history and culture has been diverse regionally.

Stopping legitimate refugees is extreme in my view (against human rights). What you are doing is classic right wing rhetoric mixing legitimate refugees and illegitimate into one pool.

Re:8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:33AM (#50152276)
Seems unlikely to me that 20% of the population were connected to a terrorist attack by someone who would be executed.

Even if, I don't see how seeing one of the perpetrators getting killed many years later would give relief.

I also believe eternal prison is a bigger punishment than execution.

Re:8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:30AM (#50152247)
seems fair. As a meat eater I am for it
So you don't think if employers collect private data about employees there should be limits on what they can do with that?

not an attack on you, but I am thankful to have guardrails for greedy scrupulous corporations

Why are you not sure?

To me it seems like if they logically know the smell can not cause harm having a strong emotional fear reaction is illogical. Of course most emotions are so that's not meant to be a blame or anything...

No need for simple offline website stuff like shown here.
that's subjective and not worth discussing much if you do not specify what makes a person interesting for you

how is that relevant? Why don't vendors adapt the final price to the payment method?

Children shouldn't be using the internet unsupervised. Games are also played by adults. Discord is just a communication platform that isn't inherently tied to gaming.

Re:Ledger Nano X: the spy implant on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:59AM (#50084523)
yeah. I am also unsure why we do not see more fraud here. Is it because of the 8 weeks of no questions asked refund possibility for payers and up to 13 months for unauthorized/fraudulent transactions? Or does the 5 business days lead time to get direct-debit play a role?
Re:Ledger Nano X: the spy implant on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:53AM (#50084467)
> people on the internet

This is not a homogenous mass...it also keeps changing. The internet is just a medium. It's like saying people writing books know what they talk about. Doesn't make sense. Anybody can write on the internet or write a book

I would have said let them be doomed. But due to late stage capitalism so much has been centralized that everybody is doomed in many cases...

> If you own a house, you didn't have its cash value when you bought it; neither your car, nor (most likely) your education

When I grew up I was told to not make debts if not needed. So many older people did indeed save up until they could afford a car or a house. Education was always mostly free where I lived.

Nowadays it seems like ordinary people would need to pay off a house their whole life and thus also need to keep income high enough to keep paying installments. This takes away so much freedom from people as they are trapped in their high paying jobs...
