> Is this a game, or something useful, a currency system?

Do you not think the current economic system is a game? Because it is.

> single decentralized exchange...

Uniswap had no liquidity issues for blue chips with the recent crash.

Clearly there can be more liquidity in the market, but that’s not the argument.

> detractors don’t understand

Why would I think differently when they never do?

Assuming the rest of the response isn’t directed at me.

I appreciate your concern but my behavior is pretty consistent with what it always has been.
> The prices of these coins can and does get manipulated all the time.

This is known.

> Real people will get burned, badly.

Welcome to the game, there is a learning curve.

> You can't even depend on these exchanges to actually handle high trading volume when there are price crashes.

If they're centralized, you mean.

> It's honestly a joke that anyone trusts this system as it currently stands.

It's easy to distrust a system you don't understand.

> Anyone who seriously believes in a future of cryptocurrency should be calling this crap out

If you interacted with anyone in crypto you'd realize that they do.

> The problem: very few people actually believe in cryptocurrency, most are looking for a quick buck instead.

Why is that a problem? The ecosystem needs technologist and "market makers" (including individual traders in this) to function.

I think everybody has their own breaking points but mine was today. If I hadn't of spent so much of my life here I probably would have just left and been done with it.
> What about adults that take advantage of other adults?

Well, there's a pretty big universe of meaning.

> Subprime

What is more wrong? Banks lending to people they know they can't afford it because they think the risk/reward ratio is worth it? Or governments not letting them feel the effects of the markets reaction?

> Insider trading

Honestly who gives a shit? This is the type of thing that would be quickly priced into the market.

> Organised crime

Are we talking about selling drugs? Or murder? Or sex trafficking. Because I have very different opinions between the first and the second two.

> why even have police

See above.

It is when it's a zero sum game.
Adults should be allowed to make adult decisions. Thats the argument.
> so I'm not sure how to turn things around

We don't.

> Underfunding leads to underperformance which leads to perceptions of incompetence which leads to underfunding.

Incompetence leads to underfunding. If they would get their shit together I would be fine with funding them (obv not for regulating the crypto market but just in general).

If you think that's not an argument in either direction, I don't know what to tell you.
Not for the economy.
Just because we do something doesn't mean we should.
Thanks your your valuable input.
No they're not.
If we want to address significant negative externalities that have remain unaddressed for over a decade maybe we should look into how many people we bomb on a frequent basis. Or healthcare. Or corruption in politics. Or our crumbling society.
Another good tactic.

Make all the good arguments you want, won't change anything.

Because the country is fundamentally broken.
Re:Stack Overflow sold to Prosus for $1.8B on Wednesday June 02, 2021 @01:22PM (#27371403)
I hate when people bring up survivorship bias about something like this. It's such a negative outlook. It's like a "don't even try because it's just a fluke that happened to them" type of mindset. It doesn't help anyone.
Second rule of social media: never use the same pseudonym twice.
Doesn't take a painter to draw a stick figure.
I feel like your personality is probably so unoriginal that I could draw a caricature of you without ever seeing your picture.
Thank you very much. Congrats on your personal life decisions as well.

The fact that these types of decisions don't fly here makes it all the more fun to rub it in their faces :)

Ah, how little I care about any of this these days.
Re:Psilocybin 'promising' for depression on Thursday April 15, 2021 @04:55PM (#26826003)
As someone who also struggled with depression from an early age, taking mushrooms cured it.

I haven't taken them in over a decade and I did get in a funk during the pandemic, but the difference between the day before taking mushrooms and the days after are like night and day.

I would bet money that it would help you. If you decide to try them out, all you need is 3.5 grams and someone experienced to take them with you or at least sit with you. Oh, and put on some Shpongle.

You should upload it all to https://ipfs.io/
Flash loans are only executed if the entire transaction is valid monetarily. A transaction on Ethereum is like a database, if there are any issues it's rolled back.
This is the saddest big brother nanny-state take I've ever heard.
> If there truly can be decentralized liquidity in one of these decentralized exchanges... then it’s def gonna stay alive

Then it's going to stay alive. Look at Uniswap, Sushiswap, 1inch.

That's not outlawing. Also, you can't stop individuals from using this short of having a totalitarian government.
While being able to use exchanges in the US is helpful, it isn't necessary. It might curb short term adoption, but it doesn't stop the inevitable, which is crypto completely taking over the world.

It's in the US's best interest to embrace it.

Edit: the best downvotes are from people that missed out on the technological innovation of a lifetime.
