Re:What xAI's Grok Build CLI Actually Sends to xAI on Sunday July 12, 2026 @02:46AM (#48878934)
I think it’s so people can “remote control” from their phones even if their computer is offline, via a container somewhere. Then they can get back to local dev, syncing the changes from their GCP bucket. Seems reasonably useful to me - not give-Elon-my-entire-repo useful, but useful. The fact that they made it something you can’t opt out of and wasn’t disclosed at all really reinforces that they shouldn’t be trusted with it.
Apple Maps of today is something else entirely from a few years ago.

Even if you’ve already tried it before, you should give it another chance.

Caitlin Kalinowski and other OpenAI employees resigned because of it [1].

ChatGPT uninstalls rose by 295%, downloads fell 13% on day one and a further 5% the next day [2].

One-star reviews spiked 775% overnight, then doubled again the following day [2].

1.5 million users joined the QuitGPT boycott within days [1].

Claude rose to #1 most downloaded app in the App Store and US usage rose by 51% [2].

New customers are now choosing Claude over OpenAI 70% of the time [1].

And much more. I think it was just your bubble that didn’t cancel it.

Exactly. Which is why we must increase the social and economic cost of these bad decisions so much that it’ll be in the shareholders’ best interest to make the platform better to get us to stop. Precisely what happened here.

Just as with politics, the only way to get them to do what’s in our best interest is to make them come to the conclusion that they’ll risk losing money (or status or power) if they don’t.

Re:Anthropic takes legal action against OpenCode on Thursday March 19, 2026 @04:47PM (#47445839)
If you use Claude through an interface that’s not Claude Code, you’ll only stick with it for as long as it proves itself the best. With other interfaces, you can experiment with multiple models and switch from one to another for different tasks or different periods of time.

Those tokens going to other providers are tokens not going to Anthropic, so they want to lock you in with Claude Code. And it clearly works, since a lot of people swear by it.

Re:Notepad++ hijacked by state-sponsored actors on Tuesday February 03, 2026 @09:43AM (#46871553)
Because other OSs do not and the notepad++ team wants all users to have a similar experience.

If you don’t need auto updates, just disable them.

More importantly, notepad++ being able to update itself is not the exploit here. Your OS’ package manager would download the same compromised binary as notepad++’s built in updater.

Is the 1Password extension still not working on it?

I really want to switch, but no 1P support makes it really hard, unfortunately.

If the goal is to support them, they do offer a subscription: https://tailwindcss.com/sponsor#insiders

While the content is different, it’s much cheaper than Tailwind Plus. If you use AI, it may even be more useful than Plus because of the great agent rules and discord community.

People and companies can host it for personal/internal use.

People and companies cannot host it and offer it as a service to other people or companies.

Most websites don’t let users sign up with passkeys. You need to create an account using email/password and then go to their settings page and create a passkey. Now you can sign in with the passkey.
Re:How Anthropic teams use Claude Code on Friday July 25, 2025 @05:05PM (#44688462)
Claude trying to cheat its way through tests has been my experience as well. Often it’ll delete or skip them and proudly claim all issues have been fixed. This behavior seems to be intrinsic to it since it happens with both Claude Code and Cursor.

Interestingly, it’s the only LLM I’ve seen behave that way. Others simply acknowledge the failure and, after a few hints, eventually get everything working.

Claude just hopes I won’t notice its tricks. It makes me wonder what else it might try to hide when misalignment has more serious consequences.

Or it was trained to be aligned with Musk by receiving higher rewards during reinforcement learning steps for its reasoning.
This isn’t dangerous in the sense that they’re smart or produce realistic art. It’s misaligned with the company’s and human values.

The model doesn’t have to be powerful to snitch you to the FBI or have a distorted sense of morality and life.

> For each unique human who verifies their World ID with your Orb, you will earn WLD tokens.

> World Operators are independent local business owners or entrepreneurs who help make World available in their local communities.

> Make a USD $100 deposit to secure your priority for an Orb.

Really going for a full score on the scam checklist.

$60k for a record player that looks like a record player.

idk, I expected a bit more risk-taking and creativity given the price and exclusivity.

Once you lose privacy, you can never get it back.

The population may trust the government now, but totalitarian regimes are returning to fashion and love when they can skip the data collecting bureaucracy and go straight into building or offshoring their gulags.

What does social democracy have to do with hating privacy?

The UK, US, Australia, and other capitalist flagships are all trying to do the same. Not to mention the Patriot Act.

Re:Void: Open-source Cursor alternative on Friday May 09, 2025 @12:33AM (#43933804)
Personally, I’ve found agents to be a great “multitasking” tool.

Let’s say I make a few changes in the code that will require changes or additions to tests. I give the agent the test command I want it to run and the files to read, and let it cycle between running tests and modifying files.

While it’s doing that, I open Slack or do whatever else I need to do.

After a few minutes, I come back, review the agent’s changes, fix anything that needs to be fixed or give it further instructions, and move to the next thing.

I’m choosing to believe you are not entirely familiar with the story and are just misdirecting your anger of advertisements.

We can be mad at both advertisers and what happened here, there’s no need to choose one.

Regardless, research must be done ethically and with full consent. These researchers did neither so they must face consequences.

This is from February, so it’s not really news. With that said, I’ve never heard of this company. Seems like a Turo competitor.

Does anyone here have experience with it?

> Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that 20%-30% of code inside the company’s repositories was “written by software” — meaning AI

Does it mean AI though? Lots of lines in repositories are generated by software that isn’t AI. Dependency lock files, proto files, etc

IMO the wording is intentionally misleading.

The AI wasn’t just pretending to be a rape victim, it was scraping the profiles of the users they replied to infer their gender, political views, preferences, orientation, etc - and then use all that hyper-targeted information to craft a response that would be especially effective against the user.

This wouldn’t be possible at scale without AI.

This is supposed to be scientific research, not some random malicious actors.
He wasn’t just endangering them; he was weaponizing them against Disney. His goal was for their deaths to become lawsuits and PR crises.
Re:Wikipedia: Database Download on Sunday April 27, 2025 @01:01PM (#43813344)
Huggingface has a few datasets of Wikipedia embeddings.

Here’s a few results: https://huggingface.co/search/full-text?q=Wikipedia+embeddin...

And the first result, which is probably what you’ll want to use: https://huggingface.co/datasets/Upstash/wikipedia-2024-06-bg...

I recommend you go for pgvector or a similar self hosted solution to calculate the similarities instead of a service like Vector.

These studies didn’t try to find theories, they tried to find results.

In your example, it’s the same as someone publishing a paper that disproves Relativity - only for us to find that the author fabricated the data.
