Both comments said it was natural. Only your original comment sort of insinuated that it wasn't.
I was thinking of the same channel, but the video "why you don't want to do anything after binging 4 hours of YouTube videos".

Re:My 2022 self was wrong about meditation, monitors, and sleep on Wednesday February 08, 2023 @10:16PM (#34719334)
Not who you asked, but Healthy Gamer GG has a lot of short meditations that only take a few minutes. There's a course on his site but a lot of the same information is scattered throughout his YouTube.

Re:The 28,000 year old cave paintings in Cosquer Cave (Underwater) on Wednesday February 08, 2023 @09:31PM (#34719036)
My comment has the exact same information but with different wording and it has a score of 5. The different reception can't be due to the information content, can it?
Re:The 28,000 year old cave paintings in Cosquer Cave (Underwater) on Wednesday February 08, 2023 @04:23PM (#34715391)
Non-anthropogenic. It hurts the cause of climate action to conflate the two.
Re:The Teen Mental Illness Epidemic Began Around 2012 on Wednesday February 08, 2023 @04:06PM (#34715150)
You can probably generalize and say that most teens stress about competing or despair about their prospects. I'd nitpick your use of stats, but I don't want to miss the forest for the trees.

The planet did this one to itself.

Re:Ask HN: How do you find stuff on the internet now? on Tuesday February 07, 2023 @12:10PM (#34695492)
That's what the "site:" operator is for.
Re:Ask HN: How do you find stuff on the internet now? on Tuesday February 07, 2023 @12:05PM (#34695432)
I've reverted my expectations about search engines to what they were in the early days, dusted off my old research skills, and accepted that I'm going to have to do some work myself. I still use Google, but its ability to approximate a reference librarian is diminished.
Occupational safety doesn't happen just because you think it should. Recognizing when financial incentives are insufficient is important to designing a realistic solution.
Re:The United States Frequency Allocation Chart on Monday February 06, 2023 @08:17PM (#34687175)
Define "better". If you mean more accurate, then yeah the regulated spectrum is much bigger now and more stripey. If you just want a rough overview of how the spectrum is organized plus all the other great stuff on the poster, I think this one is pretty unique.
Tracking it is your hobby. It's not a waste if you enjoy doing it.
If that's true, then clearly they're doing something about it, so I don't understand why you think they're not doing enough for security. If it is aliens, why would they confirm it and start a race to get alien tech first? You can wait a bit for them to figure it out. If it's not aliens, why would they reveal the details of classified information?
They already responded to FOIA requests, briefed Congress publicly and privately, and announced AARO when they didn't have to. We're pretty well-informed, and Congress has some oversight. It's very ordinary.
Re:FreeCAD Day 2023: Report and Continued Discussion on Monday February 06, 2023 @10:33AM (#34678856)
Maybe. Blender has had an organization behind it for about 20 years [1]. FreeCAD formed its organization less than 2 years ago [2].

It'll be a while no matter what, but their success will largely depend on how well their roadmap aligns with the needs of their potential financial backers.

We have AARO for addressing the threat. Why is that not good enough?
If it was just a science thing, I don't see why they'd keep forming new organizations that are increasingly secretive.
> it’s affecting military training operations and putting our fighter jet pilots at risk
Then maybe they can mitigate the risk without you knowing about it.
Many of the characteristics of Qui-Gon Jinn are consistent with midi-chloreans as described in Star Wars teachings. Initially described in The Phantom Menace and further elaborated in the Expanded Universe and then by various Jedi masters. Jedi masters engagement with these creatures was through intense meditation. And according to their estimates there may be more than 5 billion of them.
We had AATIP and now we have UAPTF. They do stuff and brief Congress about it. Why is that not good enough?
What do you want people to get out of those analyses? They quantify the incredible observations, but they don't explain how those observations could be possible, nor rule out other explanations.
True. I should have said "if it was needed".

Had they validated more, they would have realized they made the wrong thing.

There isn't an "everything else". If you lose the IMU, you're done. There's no other way to get that necessary information.

IMUs are somewhat internally redundant with redundant comms to the redundant flight computer. But there's only one flight computer software, so if you lose that (which is what happened), you're done.

At that point, it can't tell if it's a rocket pointing up at space or a missile pointing down at people, so it self-destructs.

The cost of adding more backups in a way that would actually make things better instead of worse is more than the value you'll ever get out of it. So it's a pretty reasonable trade-off.

A bounds check wouldn't have helped. The value would have saturated instead of rolling over, resulting in a similar failure.

The mistake was an incorrect specification. A programming tool can't identify that, which is why we need "rigamarole" to validate the spec.

Re:Astrée Static Analyzer for C and C++ on Friday February 03, 2023 @11:08AM (#34642993)
I believe the "level" referred to is soundness. Codesonar is self-admittedly not sound [1], and instead focuses on other valuable aspects of static analysis. It's a different type of tool.

Re:How we plan to de-extinct the Dodo bird on Thursday February 02, 2023 @10:53PM (#34636935)
Could do. There's zoo pandas. There's the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone where they're less likely to get shot by farmers protecting livestock. Anti-poaching guards for wild rhinos. Seagrass restoration for manatees. Programs for people to grow baby mussels in fish tanks so they can be relocated to the ocean. Hunting programs for deer culling. Giving out free native plants and seeds to help native birds. Lots of options depending on the needs of each species.
Re:Estimating Square Roots in Your Head on Thursday February 02, 2023 @03:18PM (#34632390)
I would never do this much work in my head :-)

It's easy enough to guess some nearby lower and upper bounds to sanity-check yourself. If you really want, you can print out the fixed scales of a slide rule and get a more accurate answer just by glancing at it and moving the decimal [1].
