Started using recently after decades of using vim because :DiffviewOpen is so good. The only diff tool I enjoy using almost as much as gerrit.
Do you have more info about this? Never heard it before

I learned so much installing and using Gentoo about 20 years ago
Re:I rebooted my social life on Thursday January 01, 2026 @12:59PM (#46456281)
That's strange, I know a bunch of guys in my hometown who hang out at the Elks who aren't religious. Most of them are probably confirmed or at least baptized though.
Enough with the pedantry please:

"Driving under the influence of cannabis was associated with a significantly increased risk of motor vehicle collisions compared with unimpaired driving (odds ratio 1.92 (95% confidence interval 1.35 to 2.73); P=0.0003); we noted heterogeneity among the individual study effects (I2=81)".

From https://www.bmj.com/content/344/bmj.e536

If we're doing anecdotes I'm sure there are lots of drunk drivers with spotless records.

I understand that you're taking issue with the idea of always being impaired, but the article indicates that there's a pretty clear association between having ingested THC and being in a car crash.

Re:Cognitive and Mental Health Correlates of Short-Form Video Use on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @06:02PM (#45986521)
I think that this is an opinion. For instance, one might think online gambling should be illegal, regardless of whether it causes addictive behavior or exacerbates some genetic predisposition to it.
Re:Cognitive and Mental Health Correlates of Short-Form Video Use on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @04:50PM (#45985773)
Is it important to stress that though? This feels like a personal responsibility argument while also acknowledging that it disproportionately affects people who don't have a ton of control over their response to it.
Re:Misophonia Might Be a Brain Regulation Disorder on Sunday October 05, 2025 @08:33PM (#45486523)
I noticed that you posted the story, are you one of the authors of the paper? It mentions a number of potential treatments including mindfulness, CBT and metacognition -- do you think one of these is potentially more effective than the others?

Was this book any good?
Jim Ryun ran 3:59 as a high schooler in 1964 (and then 3:55 in 1965). Alan Webb ran 3:53 in high school in 2001.
Re:Heat accelerates aging, a new study finds on Tuesday March 18, 2025 @10:56PM (#43407869)
I’m curious how this aligns with the thinking on sauna and short-term heat exposure being healthy?
Ever hear of Afghanistan or, I don’t know, World War Two? Do you know what the word ally means?
I edited my link to better capture how much twitter is bleeding in terms of valuation, but you had replied in the interim. My bad!

Fair point re: selling the debt.

“The social media platform formerly known as Twitter is worth almost 80% less than two years ago when Elon Musk bought it, according to estimates from investment giant Fidelity.”

https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/02/business/elon-musk-twitter-x-...

Is that true of something like NPD also?
The recommendation engine is at least partially learned so it’s fairly likely that it’s the latter
This is a good summary that captures the discourse in Canada presently, very different from what people seem to be focusing on here on HN.

One caveat: as far as I know, taxation in Canada is pretty similar to New York or California.

Re:The Trap of "I am not an Extrovert" on Thursday December 26, 2024 @06:27PM (#42518688)
> Extroverts don't understand this concept of limited capacity for socialization.

Othering >50% of your audience isn’t the best way to make a point, and plenty of extroverts understand this concept perfectly well (myself as an example).

Re:PyTorch is dead. Long live Jax on Saturday August 17, 2024 @12:15PM (#41275561)
Imo the biggest issue (from memory) was that Tensorflow used a static computation graph. PyTorch was so much easier to work with.

Given that Facebook is now worth $500B, this seems like a weird article to post.
Re:Ask HN: What habits make a programmer great? on Thursday July 06, 2017 @09:51AM (#14710389)
Agree with this completely. Takes a bit longer to get spun up on a topic but it's so worth it.

This is true, but the bioavailability of non-heme iron is 14-18% of heme iron https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iron-HealthProfessional/

It makes sense to just eat a balanced diet.
