In practice it is extremely rare to find a pure REST model. It is hard to do properly.
Good for you. You don't necessarily have to leave. Once you have some experience you can find another prospect and then deliver an ultimatum. You want dev work full time or you will quit. And mention that you already have another job lined up.
Re:58 Bytes of CSS to look great nearly everywhere on Thursday April 11, 2019 @11:52AM (#19635868)
I hate websites with black backgrounds. It makes my eyes swim. I always turn off colour or just skip them.
It's called "training". Teach a man to fish or give a man a fish.
Do not break the user expectations. When I use the scroll wheel on my mouse the page screws up. As soon as I get close to the bottom it automatically flips back to the top. You may want the user to use your scroll buttons but most people won't because scrolling has been around from the beginning and people already do it a certain way. Expecting them to change for your site will make them leave. You can add your own little nuances like you have but always make sure it meshes with the current way of doing things.
Don't know what you are using but Edge sucks for me. It constantly freezes. It''ll freeze starting up or freeze shutting down. And once that happens the process stays stuck and you can't even kill it so you can't even try again. You just have to restart.
Getting the tools to do the job. Can't use Angular cause its not approved. Can't use REST because it is not approved. Supposed to use STRUTS 2(what a joke).

Damn, beat me to it. I've been thinking about this for a while. I just starting doing something for myself a few months ago. I'll have to try yours out.

More whining by people who would rather lay blame on Tech Companies rather than doing their job and coming up with a solution.

Please switch your colours. Light background and dark text. I cannot even stay on your site to see what it is about.
Re:PostgREST – REST API from any PostgreSQL database on Wednesday July 22, 2015 @06:26AM (#9928713)
Are you sure about that? Cache-Control, Expires? If you don't change the URL IE will cache the response whether you like it or not. 2 ways to handle this are to generate a random number to append as a parameter to change the URL. The other way is to have your web service to tell the browser not to cache with response headers. I have had IE do this to me and made all my web services send back "Cache-Control: no-cache" to prevent IE caching.
Re:PostgREST – REST API from any PostgreSQL database on Wednesday July 22, 2015 @06:17AM (#9928684)
Not frequently, but yes. Was forced to move from Oracle to Postgres, not that I mind Postgres. Very little software changes were required to get up and running. If everything was in views or stored procedures the change would have taken months instead of weeks.
Re:Make hard coding your default choice on Tuesday June 09, 2015 @03:38PM (#9688086)
I do the same. I also keep the configuration centralized so all access goes through one class. I also allow defaults in the config file along with specific values based on what environment you are, such as production or UT, etc...
Re:Why PowerPoint should be banned on Tuesday May 26, 2015 @05:56PM (#9607942)
Agreed. Seth Godin does this as well.
One question: Your basic package says 1GB of RAM. Is that 1GB available to me or is the OS using some of that to. The reason I am asking is I have been considering something like this to run a Minecraft server for my kids and their friends. Ever since I changed providers their port forwarding is broken and I can't serve it from home. However to run efficiently a Minecraft server needs 1GB to itself so if the OS is using some of that RAM getting the basic service is out and so are the other options since they are not affordable for me.
Re:Ask HN: How to break up and delegate programming tasks on Friday December 19, 2014 @03:43PM (#8774396)
Not really. Trying to explain your code to someone else helps you understand better as much as it helps someone else to understand it. You only explain it at a high level unless there is a complicated part that you might then go through line by line.
Re:Java for Everything on Thursday December 04, 2014 @11:28AM (#8700019)
No it is not. Just because you have a one bad experience, doesn't mean that is how the enterprise works. There are hundreds of thousands of enterprise shops out there. We don't do anything like the craziness you guys are talking about. We make it work with the easiest code possible. If necessary we refactor when we need to make a solution more generic.

Re:How to Break Cryptography With Your Bare Hands on Thursday August 21, 2014 @07:42AM (#8206833)
For this to work they have to have the correct key in the first place. If I encrypt something with my key and send it down the wire and they intercept it and try it on a machine they own they wouldn't be able to decrypt it. This requires them to be hooked to my machine while I am decrypting to get at the key.

You can link your old youtube account to your gmail account.
Yeah. Swing is so easy to use and you can make it do anything you want. I don't know why people complain so much. I got used to using layout managers and not specifying x,y locations and widths and heights that I just don't like JavaFX.
You and your friend should read this article.

Just because you don't "buy it" doesn't change the science.
Don't publish links to pay sites.

Re:What Grain Is Doing To Your Brain on Saturday November 16, 2013 @03:56PM (#6746395)
It's not the fact that you are eating sugar from an orange. It's the fact that most people drink a glass of orange juice that is made from 5-6 oranges. Would you eat 5-6 oranges in one sitting? no. So you are getting 5-6 times the sugar you would normally get eating the fruit whole. Secondly juicing something drastically increases it's glycemic index. Eating a lot of high glycemic foods leads to insulin resistance, which contributes to systemic inflamation. This leads to a number of conditions that affect the organs in your body, like your brain or your pancreas.
Won't buy a phone that does not have an SD or microSD slot.
This site already violates design as far as font size goes. Sorry wouldn't read it without fixing this most basic mistake that 90% of websites make. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/10/07/16-pixels-body-co...
Re:Ask HN: I'm afraid I will always be a mediocre developer on Monday October 21, 2013 @09:31AM (#6585342)
The fact that you asked the question puts you on the above average developer side. A lot of developers went to school for it because they saw $$$ an wanted a career to make good money. But many of those don't try to do any learning beyond what they took in school, it's just a job to them. If you actually like programming do it in your spare time even though it's also your job and like to learn new things about it then don't worry that you are ahead of or behind others. Just keep learning and asking questions and you will be fine.
Re:RoyalCMS: flexible website management on Monday September 30, 2013 @11:58AM (#6470271)
Don't force strict sign up on people. If I wasn't working in the WCMS space I would have left your sign up. First you tell me my last name is too short. I don't want to give it and who are you to ask for it just to try your product. Next you told me my password is to short. Are you a bank? Stock trader? anything personally important to people? Don't force people into a password model that does not fit with your product. Don't use captcha and activation email this early in your product life. You need sign ups. I am at work but I am using a Hotmail account which I can't access from work. Now I have to wait until tonight or tomorrow to try it. The first thing I should see when I go to your site is what is the product and why should I try it. When I got there I saw a message about beta ending and go to the "Store" to download. Well why do I want to download? What are you offering that is different from Joomla,Drupal, etc. As I said since I work in the WCMS space I am still going to take a look but I would have liked to have read 3-4 sentences on what I am getting first.
