Re:Package Managers Are Evil on Thursday September 11, 2025 @02:38AM (#45208535)
Where's the discussion about package sets? Always comparing yourself to Javascript, Java, and friends is obviously easy
Re:Stop writing CLI validation. Parse it right the first time on Sunday September 07, 2025 @03:34AM (#45156178)
Just use optparse-applicative in PureScript. Applicatives are great for this and the library gives it to you for free.
Yes, it's written by some disgruntled dev or somebody trying to be funny
Re:Zig-Error-Patterns on Thursday August 07, 2025 @01:10AM (#44820807)
It's still complete dogshit not to be able to have data there. Odin is much better here, iirc
Re:Zig-Error-Patterns on Thursday August 07, 2025 @01:08AM (#44820797)
Yes also the function syntax is weird and ugly because functions aren't expressions.
Re:"Why is the Rust compiler so slow?" on Friday June 27, 2025 @01:43AM (#44393976)
What are obnoxious types? Types either represent the data correctly or not. I think you can force types to shut up the compiler in any language including Haskell, Idris, PureScript...
Yeah. I am a backend dev these days because it pays more. Backend people have this obnoxious attitude of looking down on frontend without having any idea what it entails. Also demonising V8 and glorifying the JVM for some reason. In my experience frontend challenges around animation for example require a lot more reasoning than most backend tasks.
Re:(On | No) Syntactic Support for Error Handling on Thursday June 05, 2025 @12:50AM (#44188402)
Why not change everything along with it? It can only get better

Why does everybody want to learn Japanese? What makes Japanese so enticing? Why not Mandarin or at lead Spanish?
Re:The Awful German Language on Friday May 16, 2025 @12:35AM (#44001868)
I suppose like the general American of today, he has just never really learnt an n-th language (where n>1).
Re:Mill as a Direct Style Build Tool on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @01:13AM (#43981053)
Does it support source dependencies over stupid jar files?
Why not use a fast language like C, Odin, Hare or Zig?
Re:Understanding React Compiler on Saturday June 29, 2024 @02:46AM (#40828344)
Observables aren't magic. They're just shit.
It has no "selling" points. If it had any pecuniary cost nobody would use it.
I mean you still use Java, so you seem to really like sticking to your tools!
I use astronvim and still don't know how to get Purescript to work.
Re:Elixir Anti-Patterns on Friday June 28, 2024 @02:08PM (#40823287)
Why wouldn't you feel bad for the person having to write Go after you? Makes no sense to me
Re:Farm: Fast vite compatible build tool written in Rust on Saturday June 22, 2024 @02:29AM (#40756840)
Bun would be cool if it worked. At least it's not written in Rust so there's that.
I think Minecraft was originally written in Java and rewritten in a good programming language (i.e. not Java).
PureScript is arguably the prettiest functional programming language and it compiles to JS (or Erlang, or C++, or Go, or Chez Scheme, or Kotlin, or C)

Anything related to Java dying is a win in my book

So good!
Re:Garbage Collectors Are Scary on Sunday May 12, 2024 @08:11AM (#40333788)
There is no programming language as scary as Java
Re:Weaver: An ergonomic CLI parsing library for Roc lang on Saturday May 11, 2024 @03:05AM (#40326520)
PureScript also has them (as a library).
How the fuck do you release a language without enums?
Re:Figma OSS Alternative on Wednesday May 01, 2024 @06:26AM (#40221487)
What? Smartphones are faster than computers from a few years ago. Smartphones have been running Fortnite since at least 2018. I really wonder what your designers ask from you that is more demanding than that.
Re:Figma OSS Alternative on Wednesday May 01, 2024 @06:21AM (#40221450)
Yeah. If they say it's not possible, they probably are just lazy. Concerning animations that's what is missing from Figma and I think for similar reasons they're missing from many products.
Re:Figma OSS Alternative on Wednesday May 01, 2024 @06:18AM (#40221432)
Good to hear from somebody that values design. Without people like you, all websites would look like amazon
