Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:09PM (#50263334)
Same here! M1 Max going strong. I'm curious to see what they put out tomorrow but spending over 5K in a machine is a pretty rough pill to swallow
Re:Animated ASCII Art for Web Pages on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:09PM (#49995705)
I was mesmerized by the animation in https://omp.sh/ yesterday but this takes it to the next level. What makes something like this be prevalent now if ASCII has been around for so long? is it just the trend?
You mean GTA 5?
Re:Amazon introduces a redesigned Kindle family on Sunday October 04, 2026 @12:10AM (#49950550)
Ube is a purple yam from the Philippines. Sweet and yummy. Naming makes sense here.
Re:Everything I own, owned on Sunday August 23, 2026 @11:56PM (#49415056)
I’ve been doing this with Qwen 3.8 27B with success. Kindle, Android Tablet, and Raspberry Pi all working better and fully owned thanks to agentic help. No issues with hitting the guardrails here ofc.
I moved to OpenSuse and have the same experience/opinion. The only caveat I had in Wayland is Game Streaming. Sunshine/Moonlight work but the input lag is noticeable and there are artifacts in the game. I go back and forth between X11 and Wayland just because X11 better for game streaming but in time I'm sure I'll go full-time into Wayland.
Hoping this brings EV infrastructure up in the country. A road trip is still quite an ordeal due to the lack of fast chargers in highways and maybe that's why the range on the first version of Olena is low, as it's aimed to provide "ultra mobility" within cities and not outside of it but still, glad to see the MX government invest into renewable technology.
Re:Ask HN: Are you still using a Vision Pro? on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @07:33PM (#48469260)
Not really. I keep waiting to see if Apple would take it as a trade-in for something else. It's great for watching movies but only as a solo-experience.
Re:Claude Code Remote Control on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @10:16AM (#47152655)
Is this compatible with Bedrock powered Claude Code setups?
Re:Claude Code Is Being Dumbed Down on Wednesday February 11, 2026 @04:23PM (#46981227)
Some workarounds are here https://github.com/anomalyco/opencode/issues/7410 but I agree with you, this should be a native feature.
Re:Let's put Tailscale on a jailbroken Kindle on Monday December 08, 2025 @12:09PM (#46194811)
Excellent. This plus OPDS will make for easier transfer of files locally.
Re:Realtime BART Arrival Display on Monday November 10, 2025 @02:35AM (#45873409)
What a great thing you built!
Re:Gemma 3 270M: The compact model for hyper-efficient AI on Thursday August 14, 2025 @01:17PM (#44903072)
Serious question but if it hallucinates about almost everything, what's the use case for it?
Re:A cycling desk / Zwifting with a split keyboard on Wednesday November 13, 2024 @07:36PM (#42131856)
This sounds like bro science. Having boring sessions is not the point, Z2 training is designed to build endurance, improve cardiovascular efficiency, and increase your body's ability to burn fat as a fuel source at moderate intensities. It’s not about enduring boredom or embracing “mental pain” but rather about consistently training at a level that is sustainable for extended periods.
Re:Traveling with Apple Vision Pro on Wednesday October 16, 2024 @05:13PM (#41863909)
If the truly cared about that they would let us run a desktop OS on their iPhones so we don’t carry laptops all around.
Re:What's New in Neovim 0.10 on Thursday May 16, 2024 @11:30AM (#40379592)
Have you tried using an nvim distribution? They take care of all the plugin loading, config and testing. They stay reasonably updated too.
Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @07:47PM (#40292838)
Yes. If I’m plugging it to a thunderbolt dock I’d expect it to work like a MacBook Air
Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @12:29PM (#40287857)
I get frustrated seeing this go into the iPad and knowing that we can't get a shell, and run our own binaries there. Not even as a VM like [UserLAnd](https://userland.tech). I could effectively travel with one device less in my backpack but instead I have to carry two M chips, two displays, batteries, and so on...

It's great to see this tech moving forward but it's frustrating to not see it translate into a more significant impact in the ways we work, travel and develop software.

Re:Arthropod Intelligence? The Case for Portia (2020) on Wednesday March 13, 2024 @02:24PM (#39695322)
I loved Children of Time. Made me appreciate multi-generational stories for the first time. Also, the ants!
Re:Meta AI releases Code Llama 70B on Monday January 29, 2024 @04:34PM (#39182991)
You can download it and run it with [this](https://github.com/oobabooga/text-generation-webui). There's an API mode that you could leverage from your VS Code extension.
How well do LLMS like this work with a non-English language? Or are these open source models limited to English?
Re:Kevin Mitnick has died on Thursday July 20, 2023 @10:06AM (#36800644)
I never met him but his books and anecdotes fueled the mind of a young me. All I wanted was to be a hacker like him. Rest in peace Mr Mitnick. You’ll be missed.
I hear you but it think they’ll comply and provide a way to have all those things. There was no incentive to have it up until now.

With fines on the line they better get creative.

Re:Cool but Obscure X11 Apps on Thursday July 13, 2023 @10:58AM (#36710230)
GLXGears was my command of choice to verify if my graphics drivers were installed. Either they would run smoothly (when installed) or choppy and broken. Can’t use that anymore because the APUs and generic drivers got so good that everything runs smoothly. Good times.
Re:GPT-4 API General Availability on Friday July 07, 2023 @01:09AM (#36627424)
Make a tutorial?
Re:Bottles – Easily run Windows software on Linux on Tuesday July 04, 2023 @07:20PM (#36593740)
I only use Windows because of gaming purposes. Is there anything around the internet that can show benchmarks for something like Bottles vs Proton vs Windows? WSL works well but I’d personally want to stay stick to native and not dual boot.
Re:Update on Sharing on Tuesday May 23, 2023 @03:29PM (#36049601)
We are back to the cable days. We know the likely outcome for this: increase in piracy. I do not advocate for this (not even a Netflix user myself) but they have forgotten about one of the motivations that allowed the streaming business to flourish, "cable cutting" for minimizing costs.
Re:iOS 17 app sideloading might only be available in Europe on Saturday April 22, 2023 @10:49PM (#35672889)
The feature will likely be tied to an European Apple ID which means you’ll need an European credit card in order to make this work.
Re:Manjaro Linux 22.1 Talos Released on Saturday April 22, 2023 @07:56PM (#35671999)
It’s great to see this project still going strong after many years. For me, Manjaro struck the perfect balance between stability and new features. The community is also one of my favorite things about it. For anyone finding Ubuntu too bloated and Arch too hard to install/maintain, Manjaro is the way to go. You’ll get the best of both worlds.
This makes sense. Amongst my friends, a number of them maxed out an M1 machine not just because of the processor but also because of the improved I/O and new form factor. The M1 machine ticked so many boxes that the purchase decision was not solely pushed by the CPU. The machines are so good it’s hard to justify a new one!
