It’s a gold rush, they sell the shovels (for all the data center construction).
This seems to be all about drift from the main implementation of Cpython.
If JIT is different enough in maintenance, security best practices, and consumer use, we don’t have two compilers, we have two different languages.
And that’s the crux of it.
GitHub has had an insanely busy year trying to keep up with the flood of AI development. When traffic grows 100-1000x. Things get missed
Green Lanterns HQ, clearly
As someone who has been around a sick child, I’ll take the statistically significant temperature reduction at 4h of ibuprofen.
“It is obvious that the entity that

Lol
Most Dutch will only speak English to non-Dutch. Which is really annoying if you’re there trying to learn Dutch
Stuff like this makes me laugh when someone says cyclists should pay their fair share for road maintenance.
That is one where you need to do the math. the source of the power for these trucks is an unknown proportion of fossil fuels and there is transmission loss for electric power.
Also, assuming a 10% increase of tire wear rate seems unreasonable: I’d assume it’s proportional to the weight of the vehicle.
Rails cannot replace ALL trucks. But it could replace a lot of them.
Edge cases shouldn’t determine our infrastructure and hybrid models have always been the norm.
Congrats! Dating apps are now actively lobbying to make birth control illegal. /s
Meeting people in public really is the answer, but I think shifting the focus from romantic to being genuine, friendly, and focusing on community in places where it’s not just guys is way more successful (for hetero men)
I met my girlfriend at a coffeeshop. I was a regular and just actively friendly to everyone. Our first date felt more like a second because we already had multiple conversations.
Men have a much greater emphasis on physical attraction than women which is why women need a much higher level of physical attraction when only using that. But building community lets us show off our other qualities which women put a much greater emphasis on.
And if a pedophile ever sponsors a product you own, maybe take 10 seconds out of your day to write that.
Why does this feel like negotiating with the monkey’s paw?
Your suggestion that it is malware is misleading. Malware is “any software intentionally designed to harm, disrupt, or steal data from computers”. I sincerely doubt that was the author’s intention.
Everyone in open source is trying to write good software and the definition of good is subjective depending on overall design, features, ease of use, quality, and performance.
If an open source project is missing a feature, go build it. If the project maintainers don’t want it, fork the project. Be the change you want to see in the world. That’s the beauty of open source.
To be fair, it’s not hard to say “white supremacy is bad and I’m not cool with it”
It took me only 10 seconds to write.
If you don’t like how it works, go build your own.
Articles like these make me miss pre-AI hacker news. A genuine and engaging study instead of the vast majority of articles now about another forgettable AI use case or mistake or advancement.
“ Photo: Star, the author's horse, scored very high in human sociability.” Very cute
I feel this every time the stock market hits a new “all time high”
“ US officials also made unacceptable "threats" to the French language and "Quebec culture", he added, referencing the French-speaking province in eastern Canada.”
The hell.
Its not the code so much as the model. The model itself can be poison pilled and embedded with ideas that make it unfit for use and there isn't a person out there who can look at the weights and tell you what or where the problem is by looking at the code.
this isn't if-else statements, its a jumble of linear algebra and matrices.
I watched a demonstration where one AI was trained to be obsessed with penguins. they asked for a random set of numbers from it. They fed that set into another AI model to analyze and the new model started to become obsessed with penguins.
I dont think open source is the only one to worry about though. I don't know if we even have a way to guarantee any model is secure, open or closed.
Eh, thats a bit of a False analogy. spinning off a division of a company is easier than fully integrating another.
And how will they pay for that debt? By taking on more national debt.
You know, debt paid for by American citizens.
That’s fascinating. I know there are a few different kinds of “thinkers” out there. Conceptual, visual, language. I wonder if temporarily devolving language center capability would change someone’s thinking model
Grazing animal yields are directly related to the forage the animals can eat.
Farmers are trying to optimize the number of bites and steps an animal takes to get full. Fewer bites and fewer steps means bigger animals.
Which means farmers are generally focused on how good their grass is. This leads to a focus on soil health, rotational grazing, pushing out less productive plants, etc.
The concern around grazing animals and solar is from whether solar will impact grass growth which will in turn impact the animals’ growth.
Which it doesn’t.
Shade can impact grass growth. Grass doesnt grow as effectively under heavy canopy. But it’s generally the fallen leaves that actually kill off grass.
It seems that solar panels do not block enough light to have any impact on grass growth.
This is the dumbest thing. And we’ve had a lot of dumb things.
I just don't see how the fuel costs of getting things up to space winning out unless production is located up there. especially since rocket launches tend to be extremely static.
More dangerously, I think that would inevitably lead to space being the battlefield. Since that area doesn't need any more shrapnel orbiting at 17,500 mph; it seems an idea best left to the drawing board. The cleanup required will make clearing mine fields seem like dusting the living room.
I think this is a step forward, but I think it is better to think of access in terms of what responsibilities a person or group has.
When new access is to be given, it should be framed in the context of what new responsibilities are required.
I think this framing provides not just justification, but can provide inherent expectations of a users behavior that is easier to inspect and interrogate if needed.
I found this little pocket mathematics notation book when I first studying undergrad in this used book store in Boston. it literally carried me through Calc, Linalg, stats, dynamic programming, stochastic processes, game theory, economics, etc.
I ended up copying it by hand along with every exam and test notes over my entire degree into one little moleskine notebook. its a god send any time I have to remember how to do something or learn something new.
