Yep, exactly what I was thinking too…
Re:Scorched Earth 2000 – Web on Thursday May 14, 2026 @05:25AM (#48132984)
I played this game so much that I instantly recognised that name *G
OnlyOffice isn’t a „rival“ to LibreOffice as TFA says, because the former has been dead for a long time.

Edit: Further, the ooxml format was heavily criticised ~20 years ago, back when it was introduced. This is old news.

Re:NTP at NIST Boulder Has Lost Power on Saturday December 20, 2025 @03:20PM (#46339263)
Germany here, never heard of any issues regarding underground power (or phone) lines. Ultra High voltage (distribution network) is above ground here, but no issued with that either.
Re:Epson MX-80 Fonts (1980 Dot Matrix Printer) on Thursday August 21, 2025 @05:39AM (#44970802)
I remember my Star LC-10 had multiple fonts with different widths. There was regular, condensed, wide and NLQ (Near Letter Quality). The latter looked like it had been written on a typewriter.
Re:What is Incus? on Saturday July 12, 2025 @03:59AM (#44540196)
What can this work with? It says „Containers and VMs“ - I guess that’s LXCs and QEMU VMs?

Don’t worry, Doomguy will seal the inter-dimensional portal and kill the icon of sin
Use readeck, too. It’s exactly what I need, the only feature I miss is not being able to add arbitrary comments to text passages.
Re:How I pwned a major New Zealand service provider on Friday March 28, 2025 @01:58AM (#43501993)
Full disclosure was a thing exactly because of that.
Couple days ago there was a report of another German tourist being arrested and held without legal counsel.
Of course they called themselves Time Lords, what else would British scientists call themselves? The Kings of Lower Frequencies?
Don’t remember where I read it, but someone expressed estimates are either „couple hours“, „couple days“ or „longer“.
Same, I am constantly amazed how the estimate changes during runtime, especially at the Ende of the cycle…
Re:Backblaze Drive Stats for 2024 on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @05:05PM (#43018957)
That’s exactly how I do it.
Re:Order Declassifying JFK and MLK Assassination Records [pdf] on Tuesday February 04, 2025 @01:06AM (#42928642)
Just my 2ct of trivia: The crown has still not reused the records regarding Jack the Ripper. Some assume this might be because someone from the royal family was involved.
Re:GarminDB on Monday February 03, 2025 @12:21PM (#42920509)
It’s not only that API access is hard, it’s also they don’t listen tot the community.

Example: It’s not possible to filter for workouts without gear. Sometimes I forget to add my bike or a pair of shoes, so such a filter would be helpful.

It would be very easy for them to add add that filter to the app and / or connect website.

But without a community manager, there’s no engagement possible.

Imagine they had a public tracker where people could request features. They could review them and use that knowledge to build better stuff, making more money.

liw is Lars Wirzenius, so I assume we can rule that out.

Re:Microsoft 365 Copilot launch was a total disaster on Sunday January 26, 2025 @05:16PM (#42834772)
Everything at home is OSS, I switched to OSS everywhere in 2000. I love reading these news, gives me a chuckle.

At work, everything is Microsoft, Copilot 365 and everything. Gives me a headache using it. And a chuckle seeing IT struggle with disgruntled users…

Re:Employees are bypassing HR, sharing on LinkedIn on Sunday January 12, 2025 @03:47PM (#42676786)
> "HR is often more about protecting the company's interests than supporting employees," Costi says. "Reporting toxic behavior can backfire, labeling you as a 'troublemaker' and potentially putting your job at risk. The sad reality is that many toxic bosses are untouchable, insulated by the very system that's supposed to hold them accountable."

This is exactly the reason tinnitus go to HR. Can confirm.

Re:Bad Apple but it's 6,500 regexes that I search for in Vim on Sunday January 12, 2025 @12:46PM (#42675272)
I remember watching the Soccer World Cup 2006 at work. I logged in my home server via ssh and could watch it in the terminal. Not enough bandwidth for something else.
Re:Visualizing All ISBNs on Friday January 10, 2025 @03:24PM (#42659718)
Running your own recursive resolver has certain advantages…
Re:Monkey Management on Saturday April 13, 2024 @06:09PM (#40026607)
Wouldn’t be that a bit like the OSS ‘Benevolent Dictator” model?
