Comments here are cute.

NFS has been in the kernel for ages and works roughly the same way, kernel driver with a userland component.

NFS has the advantage of having been in the kernel longer with most low hanging fruit security bugs fixed. ksmbd is brand new. Quite the expectation to have it be completely bug free.

edit: wait a minute, this was fixed with kernel 5.15.61

That's at least 20 releases ago.

AirPrint is also great.

Isn't SMB better than NFS?
Re:Librem 5: First Impressions on Monday March 21, 2022 @10:05PM (#30762027)
Not my experience. With this phone, even doing basic stuff is painful. I still haven't figured out a way to listen to music.

Or avoid all of this with static libraries :).
I assume this includes the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Moderna is banned in certain european countries for people under 30 because of myocarditis risk.

Vulkan has VulkanCompute.
Re:FFmpeg and a Thousand Fixes (2014) on Friday April 23, 2021 @01:49AM (#26911359)
I will note that this ffmpeg work by google is still ongoing. I do remember an ffmpeg (then libav) developer mentioning that this will never end since this is C and since ffmpeg is doing parsing of data.

edit: I found the video: https://youtu.be/ydqNot4csmE?t=637

Re:FFmpeg and a Thousand Fixes (2014) on Friday April 23, 2021 @01:48AM (#26911352)
Probably.

ffmpeg is still the king of multimedia although several people are starting to write parsers in rust.

Re:Alienware Doesn’t Want You to Buy an AMD Ryzen PC on Saturday April 17, 2021 @02:37PM (#26846395)
I just saw an HP prebuilt with Ryzen and dual channel memory. Quite impressive for a prebuilt.

Time to throw Alienware in the dumpster.

This is amazing. I'm glad a woman pointed this out.

Why do you think they're getting tricked?
Re:OpenSSL Is Written by Monkeys on Tuesday November 17, 2020 @11:28PM (#25133220)
This is well known unfortunately. People tend to favour speeds instead of security.
Quelle bonne surprise, n'est-ce pas?
Is this the same guy that lied to the crowd at defcon?
Re:Why the developers who use Rust love it so much on Sunday June 07, 2020 @07:42PM (#23452094)
Any cool projects to try out? I remember there was one to replace coreutils.
Re:Apple patches CVE-2020-9859 (unc0ver) on Monday June 01, 2020 @10:58PM (#23386891)
Phew. Just updated to 13.5. Good to know I'm good on the jailbreak front.
Re:8GB Raspberry Pi 4 on sale now at $75 on Thursday May 28, 2020 @05:15AM (#23335128)
Unlike you, he owns a repair shop. I’m sure he’s basing his statement on the amount of MacBooks that come his way with a failed T2.
Makes sense. The fed's inflated the money supply quite a lot.
Re:ESO Instrument Finds Closest Black Hole to Earth on Wednesday May 06, 2020 @01:10PM (#23093576)
That’s...an interesting way of looking at it.

A black hole is made up of an infinitely dense point-mass singularity and an event horizon. Nobody has every found either. So nobody has found a black hole.

Re:ESO Instrument Finds Closest Black Hole to Earth on Wednesday May 06, 2020 @12:57PM (#23093403)
Article says finds black hole.

There has never been direct observational evidence for one.

Hmmmmm...

I wonder if this is also a problem with fish. The globing there is different.
Re:OpenWrt 19.07 on Saturday January 11, 2020 @04:59AM (#22019136)
I run OpenWrt on this router. I have not seen this issue.
Re:OpenWrt 19.07 on Saturday January 11, 2020 @04:58AM (#22019131)
Those linksys routers have a driver that has had its development killed by the NXP buyout of Marvell.
Re:The Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen (2016) [pdf] on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @06:07PM (#21819965)
Still worth it for Apple devices since they charge a ridiculous amount to fix something.

Re:Elementary OS 5.1 Hera on Friday December 06, 2019 @12:10AM (#21719422)
I love elementaryOS. Except for the kernel. That thing receives no updates.
Not sure if fake news. This is not even merged.
How did the topic of Khashoggi even come up?

Pretty sure the reason he was killed was some internal Saudi stuff.
