Re:Ask HN: React Native or Flutter for a new app in 2023? on Wednesday July 12, 2023 @02:53PM (#36699889)
You can’t even connect a debugger to that thing last I checked. Has the debugging experience improved?
You might be shocked at the market share of iOS devices in the US, especially when it comes to people who have disposable income to do things like buying new cars
Easier solution is to pay the organized crime leaders to not do crime
This is a good move considering we don’t have universal basic income to sustain all the displaced drivers from full automation. Better to use this technology to supplement drivers as opposed to replacing them
Apple requires this from all apps in the App Store. It’s pretty nice on the consumer side

How do you enforce privacy laws with foreign entities? They can just lie and say they’re compliant. Not sure if courts in China care
You work 8 hours a day though. Why be alone all those hours?
You still need to block internet access to the camera via your router once it’s setup with HomeKit
It’s a shame they don’t seem to want to support Apples HomeKit Secure Video platform on their new devices. At least with apple we can trust everything stays local.

The Eufy cameras I do have that support home kit, I’ve blocked internet access to them from my router and can only access them through Apples Hone app.

That said I do recommend blocking internet to all cameras and use a self hosted app like Scrypted or Homebridge to manage your cameras

It can also escalate the level of violence. For example if you know a robot will come after you with deadly force, probably going to go ahead and get heavily armed, potentially using black market robots. A cat and mouse game
Re:Ask HN: Will Google Abandon Dart/Flutter? on Wednesday October 05, 2022 @04:37AM (#33092849)
Flutter is Googles Trojan Horse to invade Apples app ecosystem. No way they are going to abandon it.

Googles plan:

1. Release Flutter 2. Transition Android to FuchsiaOS 3. App developers migrate Android code base to Flutter 4. Businesses abandon Apples iOS tool chain for Flutter

The key being Flutter is the new “native” standard for Fuchsia

Apple, Microsoft, and Android support passkeys. They seem like a much better solution yubi keys

You also risk locking yourself out of your life with a setup like that
Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I have a giant subwoofer sound system in my car and usually play music loud on the freeway. That alert scared the hell out of me. Easily could have caused an accident!
Re:Netflix Officially Adding Commercials on Tuesday April 19, 2022 @11:58PM (#31092656)
Just curious, how is it more convenient? I assume you have a device that can’t stream Netflix? Downloading off of Netflix I believe you also miss out on Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, etc
Seems you either listen to experts in the field or random sources that claim otherwise. Which really boils down to what action must a large organization to mitigate risk? Should they listen to your logic or verifiable professionals?
Is it better than the native 1password7?
Re:Apple releases Android app to help find sneaky AirTags on Wednesday December 15, 2021 @07:26PM (#29573334)
Wonder if Apple would work with Google to bake this into google play services as well.
The voice is also much more natural sounding than Google Maps
Re:Show HN: A Gmail tool to trim away annoying mailing lists on Sunday January 10, 2021 @05:35PM (#25720898)
I made a filter in gmail looking for the word ‘unsubscribe’ and haven’t really looked back. It is the easiest way to take back control
Re:Going All in on the Mac App Store on Wednesday December 23, 2020 @08:02PM (#25524128)
What is a good alternative? Download.com?
Intel likely intended people to mix up the processors like this because they could easily have marketed a distinction between them.
