Thanks, I know I could probably get a diagnosis and treatment for it. However, to be honest I kind of like it! I think it keeps me on a different path wrt most people, so until it becomes a serious problem (financially) I’ll keep riding the waves of focus and distraction ;)
Not diagnosed, on online “tests” I score just shy of the ADHD threshold, and I find myself in this. If only I properly remembered and agreed on what I wanted to do yesterday it would be fantastic. Even if I write it down and happen to remember to check the notes, it’s almost like I was a different person yesterday, todays priorities are all new
Re:The Rise of Whatever on Friday July 04, 2025 @03:11PM (#44467092)
The point is what value can the common man reasonably provide in the free market to support a family when most of white collar work is also automated?

The industrial revolution automated a lot of blue collars, AI is starting to seriously automate white collars to the point less people are needed.

They are automating the mind, there’s not much else to compete with to provide value. Which color people should pivot to?

That’s almost nothing. 1 hour a week, at least in Italy, and mostly sports stuff close to cardio no weight training.

I feel good with at least 4 hours a week of bodyweight training plus some cardio.

Also italian
Yes. See Europe

Apparently not because I am fine
Re:Poll: How often do you bathe? on Tuesday May 20, 2025 @09:32AM (#44041437)
Every day. Now that I am in my own home I actually have a warm bath every evening, it’s a great way to end the day. I can skip one day in rare occasions but feel too uncomfortable going more than that, not because of stink or others noticing but because I just don’t feel clean

Re:What my stroke taught me (2017) on Thursday April 17, 2025 @08:15PM (#43723628)
I have no inner monologue unless I switch it on consciously, which I don’t like doing as it slows down thinking by orders of magnitude. In your example, I see things like graphs, numbers, maps, make connections and see possible futures, no explicit words involved.

Edit: I also tend to “simulate” what is going to happen by conjuring up a small video of people dealing with the situation, or myself in that situation.

A decent 3d CAD and multiphysics FEM (cheap comsol) would be a good start
I still don’t understand what’s the goal of this shitstorm alienating allies and destroying the economy with crazy uncertainty.

But fake money will not save the country from ww3. A superpower needs to have an independent manufacturing base to be taken seriously, nukes deterrent is eroding.

Re:Gemini Robotics brings AI into the physical world on Thursday March 13, 2025 @07:34AM (#43352262)
If those things can be automated, we should not waste time doing them. It’s not like they are enjoyable anyway. Count the time wasted sorting stuff and multiply for millions and millions of households

Why learn if the computer can do it better than you and by the time you learn the roi on the market approaches 0? This wave of llm removed a lot of my interest in coding professionally

Yes it can be hard to convey numbers to the general public. Orders of magnitude are unintuitive unless STEM trained.

Re:I am rich and have no idea what to do on Friday January 03, 2025 @05:52PM (#42590344)
If you are already “FIRE” and do it for fun, or you can schedule all 40h per week on billable work this works but I would increase by 50%.

If you need to do marketing to get clients, meet clients, etc to close contracts then I guess you should expect only about 20h per week of billable work as the rest is on you. So you need to at least double the hourly rate.

Re:Things we learned about LLMs in 2024 on Wednesday January 01, 2025 @02:56AM (#42564624)
Exactly! I don’t like talking or writing or explaining.

My mind generally uses language as little as possible, I have no inner monologue running in the background.

Greatly prefer something deterministic to random bs popping up without the ability of recognizing it.

I don’t like llms but sometimes use them as autocomplete or to generate words, like a template for a letter or boilerplate scripts, never for actual information (à la google).

The important border for immigrants is the coastline, not the land borders with other EU countries. We can’t close them and forcefully repatriate like Australia does due to “humanitarian” reasons and NGOs.
