I dislike this story and it’s because I can believe it.
I don’t seem to be able to stop the boat by sailing straight into the wind.
One thing I don't get about the concept of capability traps is why is it expected that a company which is good at one thing would be capable at the new thing? What exactly makes a capability trap a trap?
Re:We've made the world too complicated on Sunday May 17, 2026 @12:29PM (#48170403)
He actually said much more. One of his most radical statements was to love your enemy. Even your enemies love their neighbors so why feel good about yourself for doing that. Even some evil people love their friends and it is therefore really not a thing to be proud of. To love your enemy is what all people are called to do.

I’m speaking of reality. How is a country having an army for defense a bad thing in the existence we currently find ourselves?

Some of the options make no sense at all.

That catastrophe is entirely on Bonin the bonehead.

Thats projection.

I pretty much always read the first sentence of an article, then the last paragraph, and then the full first paragraph, then the beginning sentences of middle paragraphs, until finally reading an entire piece. Often times, along this process I'll abandon the piece.

I appreciate when an article can so clearly tell my mind to stop so soon. Anyways, I clicked on this article, saw that line you linked, clicked the comments and was pleased somehow to see someone else point that line out.

Humans going around the moon will be amazing every single time for the next 10,000 years it happens for anyone who isn't already a miserable person. Going for a swim in the ocean is an amazing experience every single time and I can do it every day. It's still a great feeling. Going to the moon is so much more extraordinary in the literal sense of the word. The fact that any collection of creatures is able to do it is remarkable.

Is it educational to do this on a VM or should I break out my old thinkpad?

A: There's the right way, the wrong way, and THEN THE MAX POWER WAY!

B: Isn't that just the wrong way?

A: Yes! But faster!

Great website also.
I know something is worth reading when I see a wall of people being defensive of whatever the author presented.
We could also talk about lb•AU (pound Astronomical Units), but generally it's best to stick to what's standard so readers don't need to do conversions. Watt hours is great.
Re:You're a Slow Thinker. Now What? on Monday September 15, 2025 @01:44AM (#45246473)
My dad recently told me a funny story about something that happened to him. Except it actually had happened to me and I had told him about it years before.
Re:We replaced passwords with something worse on Thursday August 07, 2025 @02:45PM (#44828714)
The idea of needing to provide extremely personal information that’s somehow tailored for me just to use a service is so incredibly dystopian to me. I’d much rather use a password.
It defies explanation. This is followed up by an explantation.

The way text resizes on that website is so strange. It's actually amazing how awful it is. Like they went out of their way to ensure it resizes in the most ridiculous possible manner. And the zoom on my browser does nothing. Absolutely amazing.

If there is something nice that one has and one does not have. zsh is the one that has it.

I think they might be talking about the cost to the model providers.
Re:A Postmortem of a Startup on Wednesday April 16, 2025 @02:05PM (#43708539)
It’s obviously the dominant factor to anyone with the eyes to see it.
The logic is sound, but all logic depends on the initial premises put forth.

I can concoct some flawless chain of logic leading to some conclusion but it’s all for naught if the premises it is based on are invalid.

An intelligent listener can listen and find where the base misunderstanding is and teach from there. Teaching from the false conclusion is a mistake.

This depends on the kid.
Re:Apple restricts Pebble from being awesome with iPhones on Tuesday March 18, 2025 @08:39PM (#43407049)
We’re in agreement that it is a viewpoint. I think it’s bad for productive conversation to state viewpoints as absolute facts that everyone else holds.
Re:Apple restricts Pebble from being awesome with iPhones on Tuesday March 18, 2025 @08:20PM (#43406886)
You state that as if it is fact despite there being no evidence to support that viewpoint.
Re:Half-Life 2 RTX on Tuesday March 18, 2025 @11:12AM (#43400416)
Love it.

Sorry if this doesn't add anything, I normally just vote when I feel that about a comment.

Re:Porkbun partners with Proton on Friday March 14, 2025 @02:14PM (#43365472)
That's not a counter anecdote. Both things can happen in the same world without invalidating each other.
