grist is sort of similar. its a spreadsheet/database hybrid that lets you use python for formulas, and they have a self-hosted option:

the good thing about miniDisc is that its relatively easy to get the tracks back off it again. like if you wanted to share a disc with a friend, they could copy the tracks onto their computer using webminidisc or some other software. all the software is a bit old and janky but it's quicker than having to copy a tape!

usually the polite way of going about it is to credit the original artist in some way but it seems zeppelin didn't make any attempt whatsoever. dazed and confused is a good example. its not just copying a chord progression and taking it from there, it was the whole thing, the name, the melody

Re:Firefox Got Faster for Real Users in 2023
on Wednesday November 01, 2023 @03:59AM (#38095653)
heres a few general ones. on my linux computers i have a bash script to install firefox, then it sets up symlink of the user.js file from my own config folder to the default .config folder. on windows i just manually add it
user_pref("browser.aboutConfig.showWarning", "false"); // disable about:config warning
user_pref("browser.startup.page", 3); // restore previous session
user_pref("browser.ctrlTab.sortByRecentlyUsed", "true"); // cycles tabs in recently used order
user_pref("signon.rememberSignons", "false"); // dont ask to save passwords
user_pref("browser.search.suggest.enabled", "false"); // disable address bar suggestions
user_pref("toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets", "true"); // enable custom css
this is the only css i could find that i like since it keeps the window controls as well, although since a recent update, theyre just showing as a white box now but they still works

the user.js file is a very underrated feature as well. i have a few computers and some of them are dual boot which means i have a lot of firefox installs so its great just being able to drop in the user.js file and have everything set up the way i like it

when i was younger we made good use of those headphone splitters to share music on the bus home from school or wherever. how long has bluetooth been a thing now and it still doesnt have that feature? i use bluetooth headphones here and there but i would never consider it to be a replacement to analog

another plus for using a bluetooth reciever. something like the fiio btr3. it still works while charging and can be used with any headphones or earbuds. it will hopefully last me longer too since i probably have more chance of replacing the battery compared to the types that are in headphones

that really bugs me any time i have to use a Windows computer. on linux (on pop os or zorin os at least) you just hold down the super/windows key and then left click and drag anywhere on the window to move it.
pop os also puts a thick border around that active window which makes it much easier to see where you are

i have a raspberry pi zero wifi thats running syncthing and has a few of my syncthing folders/nodes on it. i already have a NAS that acts as the always-on node for all my syncthing folders, but if that is ever down for maintenance or whatever then the pi zero is sort of a backup that will keep syncthing things
i have another running kodi so i can access jellyfin that's on my NAS
pi-hole for network wide ad blocking
currently setting up one to act as a storage location for the restic backups from my NAS instead of having to store them with some storage provider like backblaze. i will be installing tailscale on it as well so i can leave it in a friends house and hopefully be able to reconnect to it even if they move house in the future
