A little fast huh?
My monitor is 32:9, I don't care how wide the vertical taskbar is.
Re:Usability of Footnotes on Tuesday July 28, 2020 @05:01AM (#23973791)
I can't believe he wrote a whole article on the usability of footnotes, using footnotes, on a site without links to return from the footnote back to where it was used.

"fibroblastosis" -- appears to feature in some medical journals

"bryosphere" -- something to do with moss

"biosprint" -- a brand of yeast.

Many of these 'non-words' have already been taken....

Are we even supposed to be buying stuff right now?
A process which most recruits survive. Not too useful for university admissions, which are generally expected to have a 100% survival rate...

I wouldn't be able to stop myself from saying "way-als" in a mocking accent. Just like how I can't stop myself saying "moo-ney" when I hear it from a Dubliner.
On second thoughts, I'm guessing that what this ACTUALLY does is make sure that the petrol engine doesn't waste fuel recharging the battery unnecessarily at the end of the trip when it's going to get plugged in.
>It also has a "battery drain mode." Basically, when you are ending your journey, you will tell the Regera where you will be parking the car, at home or a charging station. The Regera will then make sure that the battery is fully drained before it gets to the end point, which means it'll be ready to accept a charge. Very smart. It has a fully electric mode of about 22 miles.

I thought this was the worst thing you could do to lithium cells?!

There's a lesser form of tone-deafness (perhaps that's not the right word for it) where you can't tell with certainly or consistency the direction or extent of a change in pitch.

You can still hear and appreciate music, but you can't whistle or hum along to a tune.

Re:How I hacked modern vending machines on Tuesday October 16, 2018 @04:09AM (#18227576)
That's a dumb movie plot. Vending machines measure and weigh coins. A coin-sized chunk of ice does not weigh the same as a coin.

We've also long since passed the point where games have pre-rendered scenes that could have been rendered in-engine on high-end hardware.

The only tip-off I had that (some of) Nier Automata's cutscenes are pre-rendered was the drop to 30fps...

> There’s one 1080 Ti GPU to start (you can just as easily use the new 2080 Ti for Machine Learning at $500 more — just be careful to get one with a blower fan design)

I don't believe there are any blower-style 20-series cards. The reference cards use a dual-fan design.

I'm pretty sure OpenAI only plays the single simplest hero, mechanically. The other 115 would be varying degrees of "more difficult" to play competently.

Also, it only played mirror matches. If it had to play any hero against any hero, that's 3.393109e+190 possible matchups.

A note for clueless windows users:

    convert /?
Converts a FAT volume to NTFS.

    CONVERT volume /FS:NTFS [/V] [/CvtArea:filename] [/NoSecurity] [/X]

volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
                  mount point, or volume name.
/FS:NTFS Specifies that the volume will be converted to NTFS.
/V Specifies that Convert will be run in verbose mode.
      /CvtArea:filename
Specifies a contiguous file in the root directory
that will be the place holder for NTFS system files.
/NoSecurity Specifies that the security settings on the converted
files and directories allow access by all users.
/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary.
All open handles to the volume will not be valid.

You probably can't do any damage attempting to use it to convert images, but there might be a way to screw up attempting to convert an image so badly you destroy your filesystem.
