Well it's more like Rudy Giuliani starting a bitcoin company regardless of his expertise in any one particular area right, which basically has happened a couple times now: https://www.ai-cio.com/news/former-associates-rudy-giuliani-...

This is such an oversimplification of complex biological processes that it borders on medieval superstition.

That is very clearly not what is happening

This is ridiculous, you understand that right? Sometimes people do things and more and more of those things require (by law or by de facto) apps. Getting on trains, into concerts, office buildings, the list goes on forever.

Genuinely how are people like you still around and semi-concious after the past 8 years
Re:Mechanical Turk shutting down September 30 on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @09:16PM (#49458200)
What's up with the part of the website where you are talking about "neutralized foreign actors", was that also using contracted Mechanical Turk labor?
Is this the best use of your time?

That is not exactly how disciplinary or legal procedures tend to go. The intention is clear here.
She should sell it, it's important to make people who may have been "a-political" before aware of what's going on.
I don't think it's a good idea to have that doorbell, or any doorbell that is surveilling at all times and you don't own the recordings. Who knows who is watching them.
I was just using a 2012 X230 running Arch and it's plenty snappy on the command line or even running an electron based editor (or as good as such a thing can be)

Can't stand Noah or his preening "adult in the room" affect, when you can find him tripping over his own feet on Twitter any day of the week.

I mean yeah that makes sense

What does that mean
Re:The Nearest Neighbor Attack on Monday November 25, 2024 @09:09AM (#42236419)
For the length of time this article covered you would need a power source and to not have your box discovered for months. Probably something out on the street isn't going to fulfill both of those requirements so you'd be trying to enter "Enterprise A" which is unlikely given the presumed elevated security profile this article implies (any guesses who?). With what they pulled off the "box" that ended up being used was something already plugged in next door and very much supposed to be there. Seems easier than any physical attack would have been.
Re:A Motherfucking Website on Saturday July 13, 2024 @07:03PM (#40957547)
Yeah that's what I'm always feeling like I need out of my use of the internet, more whimsy. totally dude.
I think that's a little silly, You can get a google search to look for hyper specific stuff it just requires a little bit of massaging. It was not at all true that there was no massaging required when asking Jeeves for something.
I don't know how to estimate nostalgia but I've absolutely noticed google search results getting worse in the past 6 - 18 months. You'll see that the entire page of results is based off one misreading of a phraseology, not what you actually searched for. It feels worse in a "misguided" way, not in a pure deterioration way.
If there's any justice in the world every person who participates in this sort of work will be shamed and ostracized in the future.
Re:Off-Grid Cyberdeck: Raspberry Pi Recovery Kit on Wednesday November 27, 2019 @10:38AM (#21648734)
What is this? No offense but this site looks like a concept mock-up. There's no actual information besides general ideas and stock photos, and there's no further links or reading, just an email address.
Facebook's abuse of privacy is only part of the problem, the much more pressing issue is that it's become a publisher and news network de facto.
Why wouldn't someone who wants Google and Amazon broken up also want Disney and Comcast broken up? That's a massive strawman.
A stellar pitch for breaking them up instead
Energy usage may be not that high, but data usage, especially on mobile devices, is very high.

Even on my home network something insane like 30% of packets sent and received are ad or tracking related, which I know because they all get blocked by the PiHole sitting next to the router.

Choosing to block ads literally makes my browsing go faster, and keeps my data limits from being blown out. AND it prevents fingerprinting of my habits? It's a complete no-brainer.

Re:First modern coreboot server platform on Thursday August 08, 2019 @01:26PM (#20646499)
I mean you have to get coreboot functioning before getting to libreboot don't you?
Re:Pi-hole: A black hole for Internet advertisements on Thursday May 30, 2019 @10:45AM (#20051684)
I bought a TV that, because of the pihole, I know phones home approximately once every thirty seconds about my viewing habits.

In the world we live in something like a pihole isn't an ideological position, it's a necessity to not have everything we do end up rolling into someone else's ad profile on my household.

Re:Building a Titan: Better security through a tiny chip on Thursday October 18, 2018 @10:56AM (#18248809)
Which actual differences exist between the hardware security of a Pixel 2 and an iPhone 7?
Re:Building a Titan: Better security through a tiny chip on Wednesday October 17, 2018 @04:30PM (#18243481)
I'm pretty sure the Pixel 2 had hardware keystore security on par with an iPhone 6/7, which is what that suggests.
