Sorry, you are just selfish.
I've no desire to persecute anyone, yet once again you assume I do.
All I ask is that my neighbours use a fan, it doesn't bother me enough to interfere with them, I just WISH they could be a little less selfish. They aren't, and in the grand scheme of things it's fine.
You seem to intentionally misrepresent what I state and play the victim.
Indeed cannabis is fully legal in many jurisdictions and it's becoming more and more common - I'm not convinced by your "life and death" narrative here in the slightest.
No - I don't care much what happens to you, I don't know you from Adam. However, nor do I care how much or how little of your sacred herb you smoke.
I merely ask that if you find yourself around others, have some consideration for them. Wishing someone would put a fan on while they smoke, out of good will is hardly a conspiracy scale persecution.
If you can't grant others this courtesy, I'm still going to leave you alone. I may however post a vague post on the internet indicating displeasure for certain people's lack of manners and respect for others.
While I do enjoy both sex and travel, this doesn't seem the appropriate forum to discuss it in.
The tip isn't the problem, the expectation that the tip will occur and thus salaries can be lowered as a result of it - is.
If your mind is so open, why are you so closed and selfish towards other's view points?
And you'll note, I don't stop them, nor complain - I merely WISH they were a little more considerate in their partaking of the herb, I'd be less irritated.
Additionally, they don't have "every right" it's entirely illegal here, but I've no interest in calling the police over it - as again, I just wish they were naturally a little more considerate over their use of shared space than having a desire to punish them over it.
Fine, I'll take the bait.
I moved here by choice, my "ancestors" have nothing to do with Hong Kong.
I also don't wage a war against my neighbours who are simply trying to "enjoy a smoke".
I still don't appreciate when my house smells of cannabis when I leave the window open and don't turn on the fans I have in the balcony.
My neighbours could turn on a fan to dissipate the smoke, they don't it's inconsiderate, but I'm not going to ruin their day over it.
Moving over this, does not make any sense, the whole argument of "If you don't like it then leave" reeks of ignorant entitlement.
YOU are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
"Just leave them!" Yeah. Ok.
Try empathy, it's free.
This has been true across two countries (Scotland, Hong Kong) and multiple doctors, with a third country's (China) doctor suggesting I try out sleeping tablets for a few weeks - and only giving me a very limited supply of them - to try out instead.
I wonder if the "here take these" is a predominantly American phenomenon due to the weird incentives around health care costs (I'm being genuine here - maybe it's predominant in other countries too, I honestly don't know!)
It's easy to say that we are more connected but far apart, but only if you ignore the democratization that has come with that connectivity.
I also don't trust them not to make a complete hash of all this, removing all potential utility while simultaneously increasing the chances of my ID being stolen.
sigh
I see it as a spiritual successor to my much loved childhood Amiga A500 which partially spurred my life long love of computing.
The GPU pins on the back are nice, as is the fact that all IO is cleanly at the back of the device.
That being said, my only real desk is almost entirely consumed by workstation/gaming PC and it's associate monitors that ironically this more convenient form-factor is less convenient for my use cases.
I have a bunch of Pi4s at home they work well as I can power them over PoE, don't spit out too much heat, have a well supported stable OS and are great for running small personal projects and workloads. (Home assistant, DNS, a few other docker containers that power things internal to my network) - sure a NUC would be more powerful, but then I have to find a way to route power in to it, and I'm running out of wall sockets!!
I've never thought alcohol tastes like bleach, though in some I can now certainly get a taste of "ethanol", same with the charcoal coffee thing -- many flavours I've found in coffee, but never charcoal.
I wouldn't be surprised if we all have some kind of genetic marker/mutation (I'm not a biologist, sorry!) that impacts the way we taste certain foods.
Most of it smells like it is rotting to me and the taste is overpowering[0]. Trust me, I've tried countless times. Something that my wife will insist has no or little seafood in will taste like I am eating the entire ocean.
People would tell me "Oh you don't know what you are missing out on!" so I would try to get myself to eat it again. I've now learned that the only thing I am missing out on is suffering - I don't like seafood. I'm ok with this.
[0]I have occassionally managed if it's exceptionally mild or watered down, but even then there is usually a sense that something taste a bit "odd" while not being wholly unpaletable.
It isn't perfect, and still lacks a lot of features that other people may consider a must have, but so far it's been the best Todo app I've ever used.
Welcome to enterprise, it's not shit because people don't care. People don't care because they are incentivised not to, and those that do care, burn out.
Zuck isn't paying $200m per employee he's spending $200m on marketing and the droves of talent that will come and work for far less on the promise of a big pay out and prestige...
The only thing that has changed is the phrasing of the headlines.
It begins to fall down when you think in terms of interpolation and movement, if the server had to confirm your every movement it'd end up very jittery and feel awful as you ping back and forth between where your client state thinks you are and the server state thinks you are.
Even the client is kind of guessing (visually) where it is a lot of the time, at least until the next physics or update tick comes in and all this means that the server is going to be doing a hell of a lot of guess work about the state of the clients.
This article helps with reasoning around what a game is doing per-frame: https://gameprogrammingpatterns.com/game-loop.html
Certainly though, I think in this day and age, for slower games you could probably do a better job of this on the server though -- and I'm sure people are working on it.
