All well and good but blockchain doesn’t invalidate the need for ‘good faith’, which is actually due diligence supported by rule of law.

There’s a more lucrative thriving non-location based market at degree/PhD level too (Harvard, etc)

The “Neoliberal agenda” didnt surface in search results for me. Anyone have a link to a copy please, I’d be most grateful.
Re:Welcome to Apple: A one-party state on Monday January 13, 2020 @03:24AM (#22032764)
“Who wants a stylus?” Jobs asked then. “Nobody wants a stylus”

The stylus is great in the right app(Procreate/Notion/Notability...) and holds more potential So: 1. Visionaries also have their blindspots 2. Ergo, App developers are a major part of what makes Apple great (FB etc moved away from this) 3. Apples ‘walled garden’ is the only platform with the potential to provide users a wholly unified computing experience, over any Apple device... a cut back version of Weiser’s vision perhaps.

My friend, understand the difference between looting and preservation :-)
The Guardian is operationally in the UK, but its ownership is sited in an offshore trust.
And many of Londons cafes are not much better than toilets (I speak as an ex-pat having recently visited).

I used to live around the corner from the one in Fitzrovia. Never saw the appeal. Chacun a son gout.

It's also cheap and trivial to form a UK company with bank account - no matter whether UK citizen/resident or not.
Spooky.
Re:Apple updates its iMac line on Tuesday March 19, 2019 @05:30PM (#19436152)
I'm happily using Mojave on two MBP's - 2009 (4Gb) and 2010 (8Gb) with SSD's. Freedom to upgrade internals and the smarts and generosity of dosdude1 (google that) turned them into the best tech purchases Ive made (after previous years of throwing money at premium end PC's that didn't last)

Why not cut inequality at the root: prevent children accruing socio-economic advantages from the moment of birth
Re:Studying the demise of historic civilisations on Tuesday March 05, 2019 @05:01AM (#19309460)
What is the point of children..?

It is 'experimentable' - policies are tested and piloted all the time.
Re:Ask HN: Go-to web stack today? on Saturday January 05, 2019 @01:37PM (#18833334)
Solid recommendations - anyone can get a long way fast with Gatsby/Firebase

I'd only add NextJS as an option for the runway it offers and Meteor/Apollo/AWS as an alternative in that case.

Re:The Norwegian art of the packed lunch on Saturday January 05, 2019 @12:47PM (#18832992)
Here in Albania (Europe) it's still a lifestyle thing - school is done by 1pm and lunch is taken at leisure with pleasure. It's a real joy.
Re:How to Land on Mars on Monday November 26, 2018 @02:17PM (#18536005)
Extraordinary claims...
Article is quite wrong: the FB is an ad platform with at least the longevity potential of mainstream TV channel's.

Re:Why We Need Difficult Books on Wednesday November 14, 2018 @04:01AM (#18448520)
"Literature awards are much less a popularity contest than music and film"

The scale is smaller, but lit awards are as much a trade event indulging in the vainglory of supply-side driven trends, celebrity, fashion cycle...

Re:How to Keep Your Job as Your Company Grows on Wednesday November 14, 2018 @03:22AM (#18448383)
Hmmm... yet somehow a sales person/consultant of any worth is hired on the strength of their book...
Y-comb for me is "broadcatch" (Kevin Kelly?) over a range of side-interests (tech, science)
