Re:Tesla pushes U.S. to boost fuel economy penalties on Thursday September 23, 2021 @02:20PM (#28633012)
No, let's not do that. Taxes should exist purely to cover government costs, not to finance causes.
Re:Tesla pushes U.S. to boost fuel economy penalties on Thursday September 23, 2021 @02:18PM (#28632971)
Tesla shouldn't get a say. They don't produce cars that use fuel so this is purely and obviously self serving.
Re:Make a Joule Thief (2002) on Sunday September 05, 2021 @04:09PM (#28427345)
I love your Tappet Brother's analogy - it's spot on. The videos they do together are hilarious in a way that only two brothers could be.

Big Clive's channel(s) (he has a separate one for live streams) have some of my favorite content on YouTube. He's super down to earth and just has fun with what he does, never taking himself too seriously while being very knowledgeable.

ZFS here.
Re:Quad9 and Sony Music: German Injunction Status on Thursday June 24, 2021 @02:24PM (#27621845)
We're in a very dark period where people are fine with censoring viewpoints that they don't agree with, especially around political boundaries. It's very unfortunate - censorship is censorship, plain and simple.
You have a good point there.
Me too.
No, I absolutely did not opt in to Google mining this data.
Re:Apple has a decade-long lead in wearables on Saturday May 29, 2021 @01:09PM (#27326650)
It's unfortunate that the Apple cult has enough power on YC to downvoted anything that's not positive towards it. Sad that only pro-Apple opinions are allowed here.
Re:Apple has a decade-long lead in wearables on Saturday May 29, 2021 @01:04PM (#27326608)
Downvoted by the Apple cult, of course!
Re:Apple has a decade-long lead in wearables on Friday May 28, 2021 @10:13PM (#27322544)
I had an Android smartwatch years before Apple even came out with one. Typical Apple reality distortion field in effect.
There's a point where the reality distortion field fails.
Cult membership dues.
Re:Ubuntu 21.04 on Thursday April 22, 2021 @11:55AM (#26904207)
This is just anti ZFS FUD and completely incorrect. Ubuntu has been shipping binary modules for ZFS for several years now. I've been running servers and laptops for a couple of years with ZFS root (laptop with native ZFS encryption). The only issue I've had is Canonical breaking GRUB hooks for encrypted ZFS root - solved via systemd-boot and EFI for me.

If you use DKMS, then you might have issues, but there's no need with Ubuntu (and other distros like Manjaro) anyway.

Btrfs is probably never the right decision - use the FS that's right for you and your workload.

Re:Redefining what a map can be with new information and AI on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @08:09PM (#26655006)
I sure hope so, this has to be a joke!
Re:Redefining what a map can be with new information and AI on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @08:08PM (#26654991)
This is just so stupid, there's no other way to describe it.
Re:Who Owns England’s Woods? (2020) on Friday March 26, 2021 @03:34PM (#26596017)
Sounds like you have some terrible nightmares!
Re:Ask HN: What entry-level telescope should I choose? on Wednesday February 24, 2021 @04:16PM (#26256076)
8" Chinese light bucket (Dobsonian).
Re:The Parachute Message on Wednesday February 24, 2021 @04:12PM (#26256027)
JPL has a history of hiding messages like this. One of the rovers leaves tracks that spell "JPL" in morse code. I think it's all kind of fun.
Re:Fry's Electronics is closing all stores on Wednesday February 24, 2021 @09:15AM (#26249987)
Unfortunately yes, but seems to be everywhere not just Bay Area.
Re:Fry's Electronics is closing all stores on Wednesday February 24, 2021 @09:12AM (#26249968)
Actually parent remembers it right. At that time, Fry's in the Bay Area was roughly half supermarket and half electronics.
Re:Fry's Electronics is closing all stores on Wednesday February 24, 2021 @09:05AM (#26249912)
In the late 80s, as a student, we'd make a pilgrimage once in a while from Sacramento to the Bay Area just to visit Weird Stuff and Fry's.
Re:Media files extracted from North Korea's Red Star OS on Monday February 15, 2021 @04:53PM (#26147982)
No.
This is great, actually! I'm happy to see the police finding creative approaches to the boneheads who think they have to stream everything. Streaming everything is not a good thing.
Re:Google has turned off access to sync features for Chromium on Saturday January 23, 2021 @08:33PM (#25888031)
No.
Re:Google has turned off access to sync features for Chromium on Saturday January 23, 2021 @08:32PM (#25888021)
Can't speak for the others, but Brave uses it's own sync system and is not affected by this.
Re:AWS announces forks of Elasticsearch and Kibana on Thursday January 21, 2021 @07:11PM (#25866532)
Interesting. ElasticSearch might have OpenOffice'd or Hudson'd themselves.
Re:Kids find a security flaw in Linux Mint by mashing keys on Wednesday January 20, 2021 @10:45AM (#25847743)
All good with Brave as far as I can tell. I don't know what everyone is talking about with testicles, but I don't see any with Brave.
Re:Why do they still make car alarms? (2015) on Tuesday January 19, 2021 @05:36PM (#25839863)
That's a configurable setting off all of the last few cars we've owned. There's no need for any beeping, honking, or anything else when the lights flash, as far as I'm concerned.
