Re:Brazil's Flavio Bolsonaro headed to US, sources say on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:18PM (#50263470)
That's not going to happen, Lula has the popular vote. Even remotely comparing him with Maduro is foolish. If US did something, they would be stepping out of the shadows. That would legit cause a political crisis.
Re:Terence Tao: Math 2.0 [pdf] on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @10:32AM (#50072389)
Well, I guess the key is to reward the humans that will "merge" the work done by AI into math.
It's funny because VRAM IS cheap to produce.
Re:10 Tells of a Slop UI on Sunday September 27, 2026 @11:59AM (#49867871)
The biggest tell of slop UI is the intersection of fancy styling and disfunctional UX. AI absolutely cannot do UX by itself.
Re:On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:06PM (#49614201)
Well, if that's actually true, I think America needs to start talking about the nationalization of both OpenAI and Anthropic, maybe even merge both under a new federal bureau.
Re:Muse Spark 1.3 on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @05:25PM (#49542793)
Is it really hard to understand that there's no good guys? Amodei, Altman, Zuckerberg, Musk, etc. They all sound the same to me.
Deepseek 0732 is $0.22/$0.66 off peak
Re:Gemini 3.7 Flash on Thursday August 13, 2026 @02:35PM (#49290149)
I don't get it, Google could heavily subsidy their Gemini models to make it more attractive, but they prefer to not do it. I don't know one soul who is using Gemini models to code. Even OpenAI who doesn't have money or capacity is offering their Luna model at $1.2 per 1M/out.
Re:Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6 on Thursday July 30, 2026 @03:41PM (#49114746)
Is it though? I saw a noticeable difference between Sol (xhigh) and Luna (max). Sol appears to understand better my prompts, you need to be more specific/clear with Luna.
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Monday July 27, 2026 @06:47PM (#49076514)
Yeah, like bombing a children school, the CCP did that not long ago.
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Monday July 27, 2026 @06:44PM (#49076484)
>My primary concern is the risk that authoritarian governments—not solely the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), although the CCP is clearly the most capable threat—build AI models that are more powerful than those built by the US, and use them to achieve permanent military superiority or perpetrate incredibly deep repression of their own people.

This reads like a satire. I know Dario isn't that dumb.

So, they are just going to ban chinese models, close their eyes and pretend that both Anthropic and OpenAI are worth $1T?
Re:Inkling: Our Open-Weights Model on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @02:29PM (#48925112)
America needs its own DeepSeek or Z.ai, a lot of people (myself included) root for open chinese models to win because they have no other choice.

Thinking Machines might be it.

Re:GPT-5.6 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @07:54PM (#48854071)
The most impressive part is the token efficiency/cost per task of 5.6 Sol, it makes Opus 4.8 and Fable look extremely bad ($1.04 vs $1.80 vs $2.75)[0].

And 5.6 Luna ($0.21) is also impressive, cheaper than GLM 5.2 ($0.37) with higher intelligence.

Why are you using Openrouter as metric here? Most people use the APIs directly.
Re:Gemini 3.5 Flash on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @02:36PM (#48197387)
>3.5 Flash was more expensive than 3.1 Pro to run the Artifical Analysis test suite

That's everything I needed to know.

Re:Gemini 3.5 Flash on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @02:32PM (#48197331)
You are seeing batch inference, standard inference is $1.5/$9. I was excited until I saw that price.
Re:Cognition (Devin AI) to Acquire Windsurf on Monday July 14, 2025 @03:05PM (#44564042)
Isn't Devin AI basically a scam, selling an "AI Software Engineer" when no such thing exists.
Re:Grok 4 on Thursday July 10, 2025 @09:37PM (#44527612)
Uh... maybe because he doesn't want to use technology that gives power to someone like Elon Musk, who is well known for propagating right-wing propaganda.
Re:GPT-4.5 on Thursday February 27, 2025 @04:04PM (#43198497)
>I feel like OpenAI is pursuing AGI

I don't think so, the "AGI guy" was Ilya Sutskever, he is gone, he wanted to make OpenAI "less comercial", AGI is just a buzzword for Altmann.

Re:Elon Musk-Led Group Makes $97.4B Bid for Control of OpenAI on Monday February 10, 2025 @06:24PM (#43006612)
So... not wanting to have people around with enough money to buy a US president is... Marxism?
Re:Elon Musk-Led Group Makes $97.4B Bid for Control of OpenAI on Monday February 10, 2025 @06:21PM (#43006574)
>I typically like Elon about 70% of the time

>I don't quite understand how he suddenly got so much influence.

then you don't know much about him

Re:Chat is a bad UI pattern for development tools on Tuesday February 04, 2025 @02:41PM (#42937520)

why the top comments on HN are always people who have not read the article

Re:OpenAI O3-Mini on Friday January 31, 2025 @03:15PM (#42891405)
That's pretty much what Altman said about GPT-3 (or 2, I don't remember), he said it was too dangerous to release to the public.
Re:DeepSeek: X2 Speed for WASM with SIMD on Tuesday January 28, 2025 @04:27PM (#42858273)
Cool, let's see if in 2027 Anthropic still exists.
Re:If Not React, Then What? on Saturday November 30, 2024 @05:51PM (#42284632)
>Try loading up a library heavy site (i.e. React plus a half dozen associated helpers for state, UI and whatever, which is pretty common) on an old or cheap Android device.

that was the case in 2015 when entry level android devices were quite slow, nowdays a cheap $200 android phone has at least 4-6GB of RAM and an eight core processor.

if that isn't enough for your react powered site, you are doing something very wrong.

>If you want to create a religion

I think he is making an allusion to Apple's culture.

There's successful companies because their product is good, there's more successful companies because they started early (and it feels like a monopoly: Google, Microsoft), and there's the most successful company that tells you what you are going to buy (Apple's culture).
