Schindlers List has a scene sort of tile that too.
> Awful everything is an American thing.
There is no need to be like that about it. The free market is going to come along and solve it, any day now.
> I can carry hundreds of miles of travel on my person if it's gas, I can't carry much battery though.
Particularly handy if heading off in a straight line, I to the wilderness.
Most of us are running errands around town.
When you run a couple of transcodes with the CPU then try doing the same work with QuickSync, it’s actually like magic.
Is this an argument about free markets and regulation?
Eg should the responsibility be on tobacco smokers to look after themselves, or governments to regulate/restrict/ban.
> While shareholders obviously hold a greater degree of control over a company's emissions than a random consumer, assigning 100% of the blame for oil company emissions to the owners and 0% to people buying oil seems insane.
But what’s the appropriate allocation? I don’t think it’s zero. It shouldn’t be a larger percentage than their shareholding.
There are other examples. Eg someone who manufactures or sells dangerous items. Drugs, alcohol, guns.
They have some degree of liability in many jurisdictions. They aren't entirely responsible for what their products do. But are they zero percent responsible?
> IE wants a wifi connection
Their car charger was doing my head in.
I pulled it apart and found an Ethernet plug and it was a complete game changer.
But: the app and their servers remain.
> My larger point is that solar is only ever going to be a piece of the puzzle at best.
Doesn’t that apply to any power source?
That’s less than I’d have feared. Thanks.
You’d be unlikely to switch off a service you needed if you owned it and ran it.
> Lindsey Graham
He was famously pro Ukraine.
That’s a great thing to have done. What did those upgrades cost?
American hardware has had headline issues for ‘allies’ too of late. The Ukraine Starlink situation is what I’m thinking of.
‘You can’t trust hardware’ is probably a more accurate statement.
> Banks run our financial infrastructure, and you can't just opt out of them. If you want to have a salary, do your taxes, or raise children you will need a bank.
After getting screwed around by my bank (ASB) I am looking to get away from them. Wise is tempting. They are not a bank.
My salary can go to them. Why would I need a bank for taxes or my children?
The only thing holding me back is the fact that money isn’t government guaranteed as secure with them. With ASB NZ$100k is government guaranteed.
This is sometimes easier, but once you have a docker-compose of what you want, it’s hard to beat. You can have running server with all the services and network shares all sorted in minutes.
Having Musk run a country was partially tried for a bit.
It didn’t go that well.
Are you claiming that a cheaper bill is actually more expensive, even when you have an example in front of you?
The pro free market Liberian crowd are yet to give an example of their system working.
The best government is deeply imperfect but the regulation free Libertarian paradise is probably best demonstrated by some warlord somewhere. Great for him, not for any other individual.
> The SpaceX example was to demonstrate how profits aren't the sole goal of companies.
What would you say Musk’s goal is? And do we want more of that?
> Companies can't get infinite profits because they will be undercut by other companies COMPETING.
Isn’t that what this very link is about? Where is the competition and lower prices?
Power, water, food etc the story is the same - or at least it is where I am. New Zealand.
The LXC way of getting an up per container is pretty great - I’m basic bitch with this sort of thing so I assume it’s less of an issue for the experts but really enjoyed the IP per container when I hit it.
> Musk has also shown that StarLink/Shield reliability are at the mercy of how he feels that day.
There is a strong feeling on HN that because Trump is President, Musk holds zero responsibility.
This way the illuminati remain pure, when Trump eventually dies.
Lucky they didn’t buy from the US. Some tech billionaire would have found a way to shut it down.
Long term smokers voices change. Is that a controversial claim?
There is a connection to Jan 6, so it’s not completely benign.
> People were RABID for Trump.
‘Were’? Has that changed? They got exactly what they voted for.
That’s the tidy way. Going full Luigi is a darker path.
It switches to a randomly chosen microphone when I connect. Why can’t it default to the microphone on the device I’m using?
Try get transcription to work. What the hell is all that about?
And these are things that happen once you have got the call going. Half of all calls start with a debrief on WTF happened this time we tried to talk.
And then there is the document structure. Try adding a long file name, or dealing with the random upload fails.
