this is true, I even remember one of the first alternative clients for Discord (Ripcord IIRC) was orders of magnitude more performant and lightweight that this rust rewrite.

Theres a small subset of apps where I still think electron can sort of be worth it, but its definitely never any of the always active or second monitor apps like we often end up seeing. I think an app you dont mind closing when youre done, and that doesnt expect or require to be run alongside other demandind apps, could potentially be worth building with Electron. But that is sadly not the category of apps that are often built with it.

dont get me wrong, I like the extra performance, but every single alternative whatsapp client has the same issue where it's missing enough core features that you end up needing to go to the browser version often enough to be a nuisance and I end up just using the browser instead (which I hate, I really really would prefer a performant client instead!)
