Right. The notion that aging is natures way of fighting cancer is quite interesting.

I've heard it suggested that curing cancer is probably a necessary step on the road to stopping/reversing aging.

That was great, thanks for posting it.

However, I think these kinds of shock headlines are still somewhat useful. They help remind me that money doesn't really work the way I imagine it does in everyday life. It also reflects the control that a few individuals have over money, if not wealth/resources.

Re:Windows Code Samples on Sunday January 15, 2017 @09:16AM (#13404051)
GNU/Windows would be an entertaining prospect.

I'd be amazed if they ever make it available under anything like a GPL or BSD style license.

Most dns servers don't allow zone transfers, so I don't believe you'll be able to enumerate domains like this.

In general enumerating domains is not really possible (you can't just dump all North Korean domains for example, and people have tried).

I'd start by figuring out how they are blocking sites. Probing to see which IPs are blocked would be much easier. There are various tools to lookup which sites are hosted on a given IP address (using crawled data).

One way to do this would be to try connecting from outside Pakistan (e.g. EC2 server) and from inside and seeing if a IP is blocked.

Scanning all 4 billion IPs surprisingly doesn't take too long on a modern internet connection.

Some banks do this too. They store the password in the clear then at login ask for the Nth character of your password (rather than the whole password).

That obviously means that the whole password is rarely sent over the network. It also means that they can use the same validation system over the phone for telephone banking.

The system is however far from ideal of course.

Re:What are the books banned in camp Guantanamo? on Sunday January 15, 2017 @02:28AM (#13402835)
The list of banned books seems pretty arbitrary... I assume any guidelines are very vague.

I'd love to know why they chose to ban a Shakespeare play...
