How long can Instagram keep the local port open before Android will kill it to save battery?
So 53% on China in total, because the previous rate was 20%
Doesn’t mean that the US government just needs to accept that.

The craziest part about that thread is how much the attitude around drugs has changed in the past years. 10 years ago the comments felt a lot more optimistic about drugs and liberalization.

I guess since then, the fentanyl crisis has happened and shown that drugs also have more negative impacts

Re:Ross Ulbricht was just granted a full pardon on Wednesday January 22, 2025 @04:41AM (#42790964)
Wow, I couldn’t disagree more
Re:Former President Trump is projected to win the presidency on Wednesday November 06, 2024 @06:36AM (#42060417)
If you had actually done this you would’ve realized that Trump has “concepts of a plan” for childcare and healthcare. Despite promising us his plans for 8 years now.
Re:US weighs Google break-up in landmark antitrust case on Thursday October 10, 2024 @08:57AM (#41798341)
Google maps was launched 7 years after google was founded. If you look up the market share of google at that time (less than half of the search engine market) I think you’re more proving the need for breaking the company up.

Maps was created because it allowed google to be more competitive, not because they were already on top of their game and could just pour billions into any product.

How is the thread only an hour old but comments 9?
Re:Real-time map of every Starlink satellite in orbit on Monday March 25, 2024 @05:13AM (#39814105)

Does that feel very slow to anyone else?

In this paper 100TeV are called “totally ridiculous” but now scientists want to build a new hadron collider which would have that capacity: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39271297
Interesting to see that 5 years ago 20mph slower was considered newsworthy: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19202532
How does that stop OD?

sup?
Why? Doesn’t this prove that it’s beneficial to have private companies in space too.
Re:A Coder Considers the Waning Days of the Craft on Tuesday November 14, 2023 @05:03AM (#38261309)
You’re missing the point of the article. ChatGPT in combination with a mediocre could solve your problem faster than the best junior dev has before
Re:Article 45 Will Roll Back Web Security by 12 Years on Tuesday November 07, 2023 @04:18PM (#38182987)
This is like the third attempt by the EU to break encryption in a short timespan. This is getting ridiculous.
Re:You can now hail an Uber without the Uber app on Wednesday October 11, 2023 @04:14AM (#37842098)
You need to give your credit card information on the phone? That’s really inconvenient. Might as well call a real taxi…
Re:America does not have a good food culture on Sunday October 01, 2023 @01:28AM (#37722906)
This comment was so obviously written by someone with no clue before I even saw the username
Re:WiFi without internet on a Southwest flight on Friday September 29, 2023 @01:24AM (#37699597)
I’ve managed to get a GPS lock while flying, it just takes a few minutes to find one. Was it misreporting my position? because it usually matched up with what I saw outside of the window
Re:Ask HN: How do you manage photos, philosophically? on Wednesday September 27, 2023 @04:55AM (#37671976)

OsmAnd already has a way of showing elevation in the same manner
Re:All of the vehicle license plates available in America on Tuesday August 22, 2023 @01:49AM (#37219118)
My favorite one that I’ve seen is the Montana Glacier NP one.
I asked it if it could use street view, as i was quite impressed by what it could tell from a steet view screenshot. but when i asked it what the view is in a location with street view it got it all wrong.
1/3 of the accounts following me on instagram are bots… I get spam messages that try to get me to buy nudes every couple of months. I don’t think they’re that much better.
Re:Rejected GitHub Profile Achievements on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @08:32PM (#36609297)

- Secret Santa (twice even!)

- Monkey Wrench

- Patient Sceleton (still waiting)

- works on my machine

Not bad!

Re:Threads Is Now Live on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @07:51PM (#36608923)
Oh, surprising. Thought they would use the fediverse to get some content going.
Re:Threads Is Now Live on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @07:41PM (#36608826)
I’ve downloaded it, like the look. Impressive how many brands they already have.

But the feed’s are loading slowly, I’d imagine that will be smoothed out though.

I can’t figure out how to follow or find fediverse accounts..? How does this work?
