Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @02:45AM (#50176928)
I don't have a "favorite" language. I see languages and communities having strengths and weakness..I evaluate languages as being suitable or unsuitable for certain job..

If a language gets frequently get vulnerability reports, it will change my evaluation...

Php's should have been evaluated out for web applications a long time ago, if the development community was rational, but sadly its made up of far too many emotional people who takes everything personal...

Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:50AM (#50176214)
People ll continue to use it for fear of hurt feelings...

Of being a hole...

Re:In Hilbert space, all things are quantumly possible on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:41AM (#50176155)
And can't one do all of mathematics without 3...(just map all the numbers > 1 to points inside the interval 0-1)?
Re:2026 is an exciting year for the Rust compiler (and me) on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:34AM (#50176116)
Oh, do you think Rust code bases won't be checked using LLMs?
Re:Types of types: Haskell's Kind system on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:52PM (#50172513)
Yes, I spoke a bit loosly..
Re:2026 is an exciting year for the Rust compiler (and me) on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:52PM (#50172505)
And that my friend, is the problem with the rust community...
Re:2026 is an exciting year for the Rust compiler (and me) on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:46PM (#50172438)
Who gives a fuck.

Survive..and how to be happy with less.
Re:2026 is an exciting year for the Rust compiler (and me) on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:32PM (#50169797)
It is not. Tell me one good reason to deal with the horrible language called rust now that we have mechanisms capable of doing the exact same stuff in a vastly less obnoxious manner....(I am talking about running LLMs over your C code once in a while).

I don't like rust because

1. Verbose Syntax made worse by having to include type system info... 2. Dumb Borrow checker 3. Automagic stuff...

Re:2026 is an exciting year for the Rust compiler (and me) on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:26PM (#50169730)
The point of writing in C is that I don't have to deal with borrow checker shit when it is too dumb to figure out what I want to do is actually safe.
Re:2026 is an exciting year for the Rust compiler (and me) on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @12:50PM (#50169201)
Rust is not very relevant anymore when you can write it in C and once in a while run an LLM over it to catch any memory issues...
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:27AM (#50163984)
That is what I am not sure about...It is like, is having a public key closer to hacking the account than not having it? Theoretically, it is, but practically, it is not...
Yes, and to see the faults, there is no telling how much deep the simulation needs to be closer to the physical world. May be in real life the thing would not work because of some signal EM interference. Then the simulation without including it would not catch it...
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:22AM (#50163913)
I am wondering how much stuff (in terms of malicious behavior) one can hide in the (open) weights?
Re:Source code of the Estonian online voting system on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:45AM (#50138241)
The best way to secure elections is to have a system where winners have to give up worldly pleasures, ties and all privacy to rule.

It works great for the military and for the clergy where it is even worse. I don't know why we don't something like that for the rulers.

> if they cause the host computer to malfunction.

It could, and that is the point running simulations. right?

Re:Types of types: Haskell's Kind system on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:22AM (#50138137)
It seems that in java you could write `ArrayList<A>`. I think this type is actually of kind "type -> type". But in java it seems that we cannot have the type `A<B>`, and functors and monads require that..

Interesting! Can you expand your flow chart to show the accepted way (according to you) to end up having sex?
Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @02:58PM (#50108532)
Yep!
Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @02:57PM (#50108520)
Sticking too much to the narrative makes a boring read. I don't think they were crass enough to alienate anyone in their right mind. But these days there is always a risk of such things offending someone, so I actually appreciate the fact that the author just spoke their mind _without_ worrying about alienating some demographic..

There is honesty in it, and that is commendable.

At least you can ask AI to justify its recommendation as much as you please..

What is wrong with that?

yes.

May be age also plays a role. May be you started flossing around the same time your teeth became harder on its own...
Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:59PM (#50097367)
I went to a dentist in one of the new dental clinic "chains" that recently opened at my place, regarding some pain in the jaw, and they suggested to pull out a molar, and if the pain does not disappear, then suggested to take an X-ray.

I excused myself nicely, and went to someone I know for a long time, and they figured that the pain was due to the fact that I was using one side more than the other when chewing. And fixing that fixed it...

Re:Who Taught the Machines Mathematics? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:56PM (#50097332)
Going forward, the only humans who will know something (in the relevant domains) are the one who like doing it and want to be someone who knows stuff..

I think they will be the torch bearers and envelope pushers, while the latter will just frantically search the new found expanse for useful derivations..

Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:36PM (#50090517)

It is great in terms of what you can do, but sad in terms of what you can be.

Sweet. But why should anyone care..

Re:AI is a tool and using it well takes skill on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:34PM (#50066304)

People who like to think will keep doing that. People who don't aren't already doing a lot of thinking...

So pretty much things are going to go as usual..
