Oh, you absolutely can and it worked in your state. There were problems with the process and you had to repeat the election for people to be confident. People can understand all problems of the above.

With some abstract math and computers? Any real or imaginary issues are incomprehensible to most of the voters and concerns can be easily shooed away.

Re:Source code of the Estonian online voting system on Saturday October 17, 2026 @06:22PM (#50135725)
Full hand count is a feature not a cost. The more people involved and see democracy happen and have actual agency in making it happen the better.

Automating any of the process is (imho) harmful to above.

> glorious in its stupid inefficiency, because it spreads the trust

What is the goal? Having fancy crypto or people being confident about elections?

If spreading the trust is the goal what makes you say "inefficient". It is orders of magnitude better then any crypto system.

Stamp only proves you did the photo and probably some metadata like when where etc.

It helps but doesn't solve credibility issue.

Re:QBittorrent breaks out of sandbox to commit crimes on Sunday September 06, 2026 @02:16PM (#49589244)
State actors, professional criminals will have same or better capabilities and do not hesitate to use them. On defense end we'll have only "pay bigcorp" option.

OSS models can help to fix infra especially for folks who would never do it themselves. We do not know yet what final effect would be and it doesn't seem sky is falling now or in near future.

"people dying and furry fanfics" is a scarecrow and distractor respectively, it would be awesome if more specific examples would be used in place.

Re:The Largest Electric Aircraft Just Flew [video] on Friday September 04, 2026 @04:06AM (#49561879)
It seems you're right. Would nice to see breakdown for this plane how it actually maps to real world prototype.

Check jet engine weight and include in the calculation. One weights 2200-3700 lbs according to same source that quotes 45.9 seat miles per gallon. Vs 125 pounds for electric engine.

Game cartridges but with TPM inside? What is not to like?
Re:Kids Act Would Require Age Checks to Get Online on Sunday June 28, 2026 @09:41AM (#48707187)
You mean targeting with ads, sucking into feeds, making kids harm themselves and making money on this with lip service about corporate responsibility?

Sounds about right.

Policy of subsidizing various modes of transportation modes shapes consumer choices. Best example is high speed rail vs air on shorter routes.
Would author be able to do it otherwise? Is particular tool choice making result worse?

Bit identical/pixel-faithful reproductions are easy to verify…

Can you share examples of this happening in modern history at scale?
Re:As AI gobbles up chips, prices for devices may rise on Monday December 29, 2025 @05:19AM (#46419157)
It is perfectly usable for essential use cases. This thing also has very fast swap and is good at it.
Government maybe rather than legislating big companies stores could not back up smaller open HW/SW vendors? It seems we gave up increasing competition on HW and what is left is app store level...

This is excellent modern replacement for part where Makefiles get messy: https://github.com/casey/just
Re:How I Think About Debt on Monday May 06, 2024 @05:56PM (#40279972)
Shouldn't this be priced into the house value in this local market?
We can have a problem with forms being on paper and not doing "add this" or "subtract that" automatically? It was available in other countries 10+ years AGO ;)
This is not a negative thing.

Global albedo modification happens today its just not very directed (eg. pitch black tarmac next to concrete sidewalk there is significant difference in temperature on sunny days, AC bills would be probably bit cheaper we didn't have tarmac).

There are libraries that help with more tricky stuff on-device like cub or cuFFTDx.
Where is qualified immunity when we need it?
If we extrapolate then lets also do it for the impact of the disaster. Gen 3 disaster: nobody dies and nothing leaks outside the reactor containment vessel.
Article is about annual production share.
Re:Dropping support for old C++ standards on Tuesday March 07, 2023 @09:59PM (#35064650)
https://developers.redhat.com/products/developertoolset/

this greatly extends of what can be considered supported by RHEL 7 (unless we require - "don't install any packages")

This indicates commit quality. Why lose this info? If you have only time to put "aoeu" into commit message would you have time to correct ChatGPT output? ;)
Re:I Am Not a Supplier on Sunday January 01, 2023 @11:38AM (#34207791)
No you come back for more improved sofas. Original sofa owner doesn’t even have to know who took it.

Analogy doesn’t suck, looking through “I’m entitled” lenses distorts the picture for you.

Re:Spotify CEO renews attack on Apple after Musk's salvo on Wednesday November 30, 2022 @09:48PM (#33811707)
What becomes harder and harder?

Asahi seems to do just fine and has good pace with adding feature support. https://asahilinux.org/

M2 is similar to M1 so it is easier as there is less HW combinations in the wild.

Re:DVD Sales Surpass Blu-ray in 2021: Physical Format Market on Tuesday November 22, 2022 @12:45AM (#33702467)
Not entirely true - vinyl physical restrictions do not allow for some modern trickery that makes sounds less soundy: https://www.yoursoundmatters.com/vinyl-vs-cd-in-the-loudness...
Re:Spain will introduce free train travel on Saturday July 23, 2022 @06:30PM (#32208187)
You can spend $200k on Bentley and still have nowhere to park it at your destination.
Control doesn't have to be malicious. For example electric oven:

1) Oven or any other appliance can just list current price of electricity.

2) High power appliances can tell network to book energy (how much/how long) so usage is more predictable.

It is more likely we end up with camera taking photos of our food and sending it to mothership - but one can still wish it will go other way.
