Both replies totally misunderstand my comment.
I just signed up for an SDF account and it immediately disconnects me when I SSH in. Why?
I know I'm using the right password from their signup email, because if I type the wrong one I get a different error.
I remember the post I read being a black themed site but this is also interesting, thanks
I've tried this and found the WinUI deployment model frustrating and user hostile. There are like 5 open issues on GitHub where people seem deeply confused (I'm one of them) as to if it's possible to build a plain .NET .exe. Some people have tried it and it "works", others try it and get obscure errors, it's a real mess.
> Sadly, Windows 11 can’t run 16-bit Windows programs by itself, because 64-bit Windows has no NTVDM, so we’re going to have to find something from the early NT era.
I remember a recent-ish post on here that really, I mean really, dived deep into this whole thing. It turns out that it was mostly a lack of willpower or maybe political that stopped Windows 64bit running 16 bit apps.
Somewhere in the kernel, with some obscure mechanism there is support for some kind of emulation that if implemented would allow it to run NTVDM and therefore these 16 bit apps.
The author of the post even had some kind of proof of concept of running a 16 bit DOS app directly under Windows 64 bit with this.
The details are blurry, but I believe that that had the Windows team really wanted to this emulation could have been built in and totally seamless.
I got the impression that this was actually a fairly new finding which is why I suppose no one has tried it.
There has been a complete deluge of new accounts sometimes only hours or days old being extremely condescending, overly negative, sometimes antagonistic, and sometimes they seem like a kind of LLM prompted to cause arguments.
Similar story for me. My entire Harry Potter first editions, some of which I bought literally at midnight in the queue. I was led to believe they were still at a parents house, and so when I moved house a couple of boxes that I guess were misplaced during the move were left in a slightly damp garage. Fast forward to another house move a couple of months ago and I found the, completely destroyed and rotten. The whole time I thought they were back at a parents house.
I'm actually deeply upset about it.
FYI this site attempts to scan your local network for devices.
Good catch. I guess that shows I don't know anything about pokemon or how many make a set anymore.
As a child I had considerably more than 42 Pokemon cards, from that time range, and all in excellent condition with several "shinies"... all of which went into the washing machine because I left them in my pocket. Depressing.
Oh look another account created only 12 minutes old doom posting. Getting tired of the unhinged and provocative commentary written by people or bots with ulterior motives.
Good, fucking idiotic incompetent morons.
I’ve been enjoying
https://www.unslop.news/ after it was shared here.
HN has become unbearably AI slop oriented over the last couple of years. It’s nice to see something else.
> We are in fact seeing software improvement, in the form of fewer bugs and better performance.
I would like to see some of this software improvement in the form of fewer bugs. If anything it's adding more bugs.
I'll give an example from a game I like called ARC Raiders. For the first ~9 months they did not fix any of the bugs in the main menu. The damn main menu! The first thing you see when you load the game! They also failed to fix, in that time, the bug where simply pressing the Xbox button on the controller would break in-game voice chat.
They only just solved that, as of a few days ago. The main menu bugs still exist.
Do they teach it? My DSP module at university was some Matlab point and click exercise.
It has done for some years
I keep meaning to try this game when I see it mentioned. It looks fun!
How does this compare to WSL Containers or Hyperlight?
I’d be interested in hearing about this too.
This is absolutely incredible and I can't put into words how wonderful this is.
How’s the gap decoration proposal coming along? Last update was the Edge post introducing it…
I reluctantly do anything with JS/TS but if I have to, I'll pick Deno because I'm sick of needing to install a dozen dependencies which then require their own thousands of dependencies.
Even if I pick modern tooling, say Biome for linting and formatting, Vite for bundling and handling the build, Vitest for unit testing, and finally TypeScript.
Once that's done, it's then remembering the right values needed in package.json and tsconfig.json to do the right thing and Just Work TM. It's 2026 and all this slop still assumes I don't want ES modules.
I could spend a whole morning on this bullshit. With Deno, I don't have to.
I always contrast that with my preferred languages, like C#/.NET. Project setup takes literally a few minutes. Deno and .NET have that in common, there is a single CLI for it.
The Deno JSR/STD thing also has a whole collection of libraries and data structures I'd otherwise need to get from NPM.
I'm hoping now this is the end of this guys constant hate posting about Deno. What a negativity fountain.
Which popular systems if any use this? So I can avoid it.
> the way apps have done since Etsy taught everyone to in 2011.
What in the slop is this?
I want to read more, highly entertaining.
