News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Why is it that almost every top comment or top reply on HB loves to pretend they know what they're talking about while making almost no fucking sense.

You got one guy on here claiming a fusion reactor will be built in Virginia (lol). Yet another claiming that the reason that everyone hates nuclear power is because of the byproduct of nuclear waste and that it's worse than climate change (rofl). Like what kind of drugs are you people on?

Re:Malware uses LLMs to rank victims by how much they're worth on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:29PM (#50318134)
I mean, I don't think the stereotypical JS and Python developer are all that different... at least when it comes to dependency management.
I'm sorry, they call their users "traders"? What the hell are they trading?
Re:The EPA Is Quietly Killing Its Web Archive on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:53PM (#50292165)
I mean, if they want to kill everyone in the extreme heat belt, so be it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:40PM (#50246746)
Democracy isn't the objective, good leadership is. Democracy is just a poor stand-in to attempt to measure that.
I don't really see how this is news. All the main English subreddit are... well, English only.

The other stipulations seem reasonable.

I think it's obvious that what slows down their dementia is that they're bothering to remember things, socializing, expressing their expertise to peers and comparing notes. Normally a retiree doesn't have that much interpersonal connection, and if they do, it's not usually that intense.
I mean there is proof that this does happen, to my knowledge there's no proof with larger brands such as this. But also it's not like every device is tested for that sort of thing by some competent user safety guidelines organization or whatnot.
Has this not been proven by now? That smart devices are used to do this, including smartphones? Their OSes just ship with apps that that record that audio information right out of the box.
Re:The Future of CSS on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:25PM (#50233281)
I think the much more likely (and obvious) conclusion for CSS's complexity is a lot more benign, it's simply a patchwork language that has had too many cooks for far too long. You simply can't have different corporate interests working within the same project without it becoming a mess. However, even if there was just one guy working on it, you'd still run into the issue of complexity eventually due to the issue of CSS being extremely easy to implement. There's no versioning required anywhere, so how are you supposed to update old standards? At this point there's no way to refactor old stuff (and thus make it significantly less complicated) without completely breaking everything on the web.

Makes sense
Re:US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:53AM (#50181006)
If not just to get out of the hands of an unstable corp, then at least to distance it from an unstable man...

Not that the US government is much better. Maybe they should wait 20 years before that, after they go through their looming depression. You always get half decent policy after a depression.

Re:US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:50AM (#50180956)
People still defending Musk in 2026 is something I would have only expected from Y Combinator news and their lackeys. So congrats on marking that square for a day.
Are you an idiot, or merely being obtuse on purpose?
Many did, and I'm sure some still do. And many get paid very little. I don't really know what point you're trying to make other than showing off your ignorance.
Re:Jev Meets the Trolley Problem on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:32PM (#50132516)
Fewer*

Also, unless you're advocating for the complete dissolution of the US, that's a nonsensical take.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @11:54AM (#50132186)
I do find it extremely comical that they're advertising this as a flying car when this thing uses attitude thrusters for liftoff within the atmosphere of earth. That's like, jumping, bro. There's no way you're flying with this.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @11:39AM (#50132048)
Does gyroscopic crash aversion and gentle downward deceleration count as flight? I would think not, otherwise we'd say a parachute is capable of flight.

I've yet to see this thing fly.

Re:Artificial intelligence is capitalism's final destination on Friday October 16, 2026 @02:24PM (#50122301)
I mean, that sounds like capitalism to me. Perhaps it's not "about" capitalism, but it's certainly a product of two capitalist systems colliding
Re:A Book That Will Never Be Read on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:00PM (#50074964)
You say that as if that isn't the point
It is eugenics, I just don't see how that's a problem. Eugenics isn't inherently bad, you're just thinking of bad eugenics.
When has release sales ever been a good indicator of quality? Heck, when have sales in general ever been a reliable indicator of quality?
Ok, but what about indie games,m? Does every game just work on SteamOS now? Or is that game dependent?
Honestly if there were a solid, unbiased news source that just covered geopolitics and science, I'd be all over that. But now I just sub to Ground, and that works decently well.
Checks out
Good. Browser development should've ended ages ago
