Nonsense. If you have a bag with 10 diamonds, and you sell 1, you find the richest person willing to buy one, so if he pays you 1 million, it is guessed that the 10 diamonds are worth 10 million. But the 10 million dont even exist. If you try to sell the second diamond. The richest one doesnt want it or wants to pay less. So the second richest wants to pay half a million. If you sell it, now the diamonds lost half his value. And if you try to sell the third diamond, nobody wants it, now the diamonds are worth zero.

where did the wealth gone? Nowhere. It never existed. The 10 million were just a guess

But only a small percentage of billionaires, spends a small percentage of his fortune in consumption.

It's called "the marginal propensity to consume", which means that as a person gets richer, consumes a smaller percentage of his fortune.

The error is to assume that there is wealth to tax. Imagine an island with 3 people, which produces 2 burgers a day, so the poorest one can't get a burger. Now the government taxes the richest person, and buys one burger. who lost the burger?

The burger is taken from the poorest person that was able to buy a burger. Now you have 2 people who cannot buy a burger.

This is why you cannot tax unrealized gains. You are sacking the poorest. Is not matter of how the government gets the money. The problem is that the government spends the money.

The poorest always pay all government spending. Always.

AI should be able to do a better work than gradient descent. Not by guessing the final weights, but by gradually, iteratively adjusting the weights

Stock value is not real wealth. The stock value is a guess about future profits along the next 10 years. You can't give to workers guessed future wealth. It doesn't exists today.
Those profits are fake. It's the government printing money and inflating the numbers, but no consumable wealth was created, so there is nothing to distribute.
Capital is non-consumable, so it is nonsensical to speak of workers taking "a share of capital." Perhaps we should speak of GDP, not capital.

The reasons why workers are taking a smaller share of GDP are:

1. GDP is fake. The government lies about GDP using tricks such as hedonic adjustments.

2. Increasing public spending means the government is taking a larger share of GDP. Of course, the more the government spends, the less workers can take.

3. Nobody is valuing "free" stuff like Google, YouTube or free ai. You like "free" stuff, but nothing is free. You always pay it one way or another. There is your "share of GDP"

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Saturday October 31, 2026 @11:07PM (#50322382)
My list of grievances include:

Same quality of questions started being rudely rejected around 2016

You had to know the answer in order to make the question

I spent time writing an answer, just to find the question was unfairly closed

Some questions were closed even when they matched the quality of most upvoted questions. When I faced the moderators about this I got shitt excuses.

In economics, questions were turned into political activism.

In the end I was convinced the site was intentionally destroyed.

I got lost when a single line turned into fractals

Classic Transport Tycoon allowed you to set a locomotive waiting on a street crossing to run over and destroy trucks and vehicles of the competition. I wonder if there is an equivalent in this game

I don't mind if it is written by a human or a machine, but AI has a way of writing things that are exasperating, with unnecessary detours around the point that have lately made me very intolerant of stuff for which in the past I had more patience. As soon as I see content that reads like AI slop, I feel like I am wasting my time watching paint dry, and I throw it away.

A switch compiled into an array lookup table
Re:Attention people who think UB is fine on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:07PM (#50246150)
I put labels on each return, and took their addresses to get the base and delta. The creator of c++ always says that such kind of code has to work "because it is c++", meaning the programmer should be able to do whatever he wants. Anyways I also used assembler to make it work (had to include nop instructions to pad the addresses, because the goto can't go to any byte. So it consumed a lot of instruction l1 cache, which is not as bad as data cache, but it ended being slow anyways because gotos trigger branch prediction. In the end the fastest method was to pack the array in uint64 and do (x >> i) & 111b
Re:Attention people who think UB is fine on Sunday October 25, 2026 @11:19AM (#50232508)
The GCC compiler is very unpredictable about what it considers unreachable code. Once, I wanted to avoid reading an array x[i] to save L1 cache space, so I used a computed goto (goto base + delta * i;) followed by return x1; return x2; ... return xn;. However, the compiler decided that only the first two return values were reachable and optimized away the rest of the code

Re:History of Civilization, the Game Franchise on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:21AM (#50204801)
What ruins this type of game, is that the enemy ai is either too dumb or cheats so much that your strategies don't work. You don't get the fun of outsmarting it, just overpowering it, and that's boring. The ai should be a neural network whose ELO you can configure.
Re:The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978) on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:06AM (#50204718)
Once an employer asked me to automatize his work, so the task that he did in weeks was done in seconds. I made a gui that showed every step he did manually, so he could check and understand every step. And yet he became confused and lost track of what the program was doing. He frequently asked me the very concepts he taught me so I could do the program. I just implemented exactly his specification. I didn't created any new concept, but as soon as the task became automatized, he stopped understanding.
Re:Superoptimizing an FPU Emulator on Thursday October 22, 2026 @11:06PM (#50204044)
That's wrong due to out of order execution, speculative prediction, the existence of multiple ports for each of those operations, cache and stack management, register pressure, and other quirks of modern cpu
Re:The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978) on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:45PM (#50203902)
I find c++ very unnatural, since it's a giant collection of small rules in the end more complex than assembler. I can't remember the entire sintaxis, zoo of function decorators, undefined behavior, intrinsics which are just labels over asm instructions, Code golf sintaxis...

to optimize such small piece of code you need micro benchmarks, and running one micro benchmark for each combination is not realistic
